About this Job

Our vision is to transform how the world uses information to enrich life for all.

Join an inclusive team passionate about one thing: using their expertise in the relentless pursuit of innovation for customers and partners. The solutions we build help make everything from virtual reality experiences to breakthroughs in neural networks possible. We do it all while committing to integrity, sustainability, and giving back to our communities. Because doing so can fuel the very innovation we are pursuing.

This internship project is designed to provide students with hands‑on exposure to advanced photolithography equipment, forming a critical foundation of semiconductor manufacturing. The project focuses on understanding equipment behavior through analysis of process signals and sensor outputs, followed by the design and development of Internet of Things–based solutions to improve process visibility and enable early event detection.

The intern will work on integrating sensing devices, controllers, servers, data transfer protocols, and visualization platforms to enable structured data collection and engineering analysis. Through clearly defined project milestones, the intern will apply analytical thinking, system integration, and engineering problem‑solving methodologies in a real manufacturing environment.

Close collaboration with Equipment Engineering, Process Engineering, Smart Manufacturing, and Data Science teams will provide exposure to cross‑functional engineering practices while contributing to innovation‑driven manufacturing initiatives.

Objective of the Project:

  • Develop a strong understanding of photolithography equipment behavior and process signals
  • Design and implement Internet of Things–based solutions for enhanced process monitoring
  • Enable early detection and mitigation of equipment or process anomalies through data‑driven methodologies
  • Build foundational skills in manufacturing analytics and system integration

Opportunities to Be Offered for Full‑Time Employment:

High‑performing interns may be considered for future full‑time employment opportunities, subject to business needs and individual performance.

Project Scope:

  • Study photolithography equipment architecture, process flow, and available sensor data
  • Identify opportunities for Internet of Things integration within manufacturing tools
  • Develop end‑to‑end solutions encompassing data ingestion, processing, and visualization
  • Apply data filtering, optimization, and analytical techniques for anomaly detection
  • Contribute to ongoing Internet of Things initiatives, including:
    • Nozzle camera–based imaging anomaly detection
    • Temperature and humidity controller data analytics
    • Robotic acoustic signal analysis
    • Robotic motor driver anomaly correlation and analysis

Learning Opportunities:

  • Exposure to advanced semiconductor manufacturing equipment and processes
  • Practical experience in Internet of Things architecture and system integration
  • Application of data analytics and machine learning techniques in a manufacturing context
  • Cross‑functional collaboration with engineering and data science professionals
  • Development of structured problem‑solving and technical documentation skills

Deliverable:

  • Completion of one defined phase of an existing Internet of Things project or
  • Development and demonstration of a new Internet of Things solution aligned with project objectives
  • Documentation of design approach, implementation methodology, and key findings

Impact of Project:

  • The project will contribute to improved manufacturing process visibility, earlier identification of abnormal events, and enhanced equipment reliability. Outcomes from the project may influence future automation, analytics, and smart manufacturing initiatives.

Skillset Required:

  • Proficiency in Python programming, including exposure to machine learning or data analytics libraries
  • Basic knowledge of electronics or controller‑based systems
  • Familiarity with microcontroller platforms such as Arduino is beneficial
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills

Course of Interest:

  • Internet of Things
  • Manufacturing Engineering
  • Semiconductor Engineering
  • Electrical or Computer Engineering
  • Data Analytics

Duration Period:

Minimum commitment of one full semester‑long internship
