About this Job

Canadian University Dubai (CUD) is seeking an exceptional Faculty Member in Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering to join the Department of Electrical Engineering within the School of Engineering, Applied Science, and Technology (SEAST). The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery, development, and continuous enhancement of the Mechatronics Engineering program, with a strong focus on high-quality teaching, laboratory-intensive learning, student supervision, curriculum innovation, and applied research aligned with robotics, industrial automation, mechatronic systems design, and advanced manufacturing.

Qualifications

  • Applicants must hold a PhD in Mechatronics Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline. A Master’s degree in Mechatronics, Robotics, Mechanical, or Electromechanical Engineering is required.
  • Candidates should demonstrate subject expertise and practical capability in robotics and mechatronic system design, with clear evidence of effective teaching, student engagement, and the ability to contribute to applied, industry-aligned research and innovation.

Experience Requirements

  • Evidence of effective undergraduate teaching and laboratory delivery in relevant areas, with experience contributing to curriculum development, course coordination, and the supervision of capstone, graduation projects, or applied student research.
  • Familiarity with accreditation and quality assurance frameworks, including ABET, CAA, or comparable outcome-based assessment models, is expected.

Teaching Areas

  • Teaching will span key thematic areas in Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering, including: Robotics, covering modelling, kinematics, sensing, control, and applications in industrial and service settings,
  • Mechatronics Systems Design, integrating mechanical, electrical, and control subsystems into functional engineered solutions, Industrial Automation and PLCs, addressing industrial control architectures, PLC programming, SCADA concepts, and automation practices,
  • Embedded sensing and actuation, including sensors, actuators, drives, and control interfaces for electromechanical systems, and
  • Laboratory and professional practice, supporting safe, rigorous hands-on learning, system integration, prototyping, and industry-linked projects.

Research Focus Successful candidates will contribute to applied and scholarly work that advances robotics, industrial automation, and mechatronic systems, aligned with regional priorities in advanced manufacturing and Industry 4.0. Research may include, but is not limited to, the following thematic areas:

  • Robotics and collaborative robotics, including industrial robots, cobots, perception, and safe human–robot interaction,
  • Mechatronic system integration, including electromechanical design, control, and intelligent automation for real-world deployment,
  • Advanced manufacturing and rapid prototyping, including CNC methods, additive manufacturing, design for manufacturability, and test-driven prototyping, and
  • Digitalisation for smart manufacturing, including connected systems, data-enabled automation, and practical Industry 4.0 applications.
  • Research and innovation activity is expected to support high-quality scholarly outputs and meaningful industry collaboration, while contributing to CUD’s mission in education, innovation, and societal impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a subject matter expert supporting the Program Chair, Coordinator, and Department Chair in program delivery, laboratory readiness, and continuous improvement,
  • Teach undergraduate courses in Robotics, Mechatronics Systems Design, Industrial Automation, PLCs, and closely related areas, ensuring engaging delivery, updated syllabi, and timely assessment,
  • Design and deliver laboratory-intensive, practice-based learning experiences, supporting safe operation, robust experimentation, and effective student skill development,
  • Supervise undergraduate graduation projects and applied student research, including industry-linked projects where appropriate,
  • Support the development and effective operation of robotics, PLC, and mechatronics laboratories, including equipment utilisation, practical demonstrations, and learning resource enhancement,
  • Contribute to accreditation, quality assurance, and outcome-based assessment processes, including documentation, mapping, and continuous improvement actions,
  • Conduct applied research and scholarly activity aligned with robotics and electromechanical systems, aiming for high-quality publications and practical impact,
  • Engage with industry through collaborative projects, guest lectures, advisory input, and industry-linked student learning activities,
  • Participate in departmental and school committees and service activities, contributing to effective academic governance and a positive collegial culture, and
  • Support student mentoring, advising, and career development initiatives, strengthening employability, professional skills, and student success.
