Robotics Fleet Technician

About Rugged Robotics

At Rugged Robotics, we’re on a mission to modernize commercial construction with innovative, reliable solutions that transform how projects are built. Through automation and precision, we empower crews to deliver work faster, safer, and smarter. Joining our team means more than just building and operating robots; it’s an opportunity to help reshape an industry that touches every community.

We’re looking for curious builders and problem-solvers who are ready to embrace responsibility, tackle challenges directly, and grow as part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team.

Role Overview

As a Robotics Fleet Technician at Rugged Robotics, you will be hands-on every day making sure our existing fleet of robots is ready to hit the jobsite. Your primary focus will be running system checks, performing calibrations, and carrying out maintenance tasks. You’ll be part of the Fleet Support and Readiness team, working closely with operations and engineering to keep robots healthy, predictable, and field-ready. In addition to fleet maintenance, you’ll help assemble new robots to expand the fleet and support prototype builds for next-generation hardware.

If you love getting your hands on real hardware and watching the things you build come to life, this role is for you.

What You’ll Do

  • Perform system checks on robots returning from and going to field deployments
  • Run calibration procedures and verification tests to ensure robots meet performance and print-quality standards
  • Carry out routine maintenance, including cleaning print systems, inspecting assemblies, and replacing failed components
  • Document findings, log issues, and keep maintenance and fleet health records up to date
  • Assist in building and commissioning new robots by following work instructions and quality standards
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical/electrical issues, escalating complex problems to senior technicians or engineers
  • Use Linux tools and command line scripts to run diagnostics, validate systems, and support troubleshooting
  • Support prototype builds, experiments, and next-generation hardware tests in collaboration with engineers
  • Support logistics by preparing operator supplies and shipments for deployments across the globe
  • Track fleet health, anticipate repair needs, and help shape ongoing maintenance plans
  • Share feedback with engineering teams to improve robot design, build processes, and overall reliability

You Are

  • Experienced with 5+ years in a hardware technician role
  • Excited about working with and troubleshooting electromechanical systems
  • Hands-on, curious, and ready to dive into whatever needs fixing, testing, or building.
  • Comfortable learning new software tools used to interact with complex systems.
  • Comfortable with electronic tools such as multimeters, soldering irons, crimpers, rework stations, PCB repair tools, cable assembly tools, and component sourcing platforms
  • Familiar with mechanical tools and basic fabrication, including 3D printing and common power tools
  • Confident interpreting assembly drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, and process instructions
  • A clear communicator who enjoys working with mechanical, electrical, and software teammates
  • Organized and able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Experienced working with electromechanical systems in a lab, shop, or production setting

Requirements

  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Based in (or willing to relocate to) Houston, TX
  • Hold a valid U.S. driver’s license
  • Physically capable of performing essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation

Great to Have

  • Comfort working in Linux environments
  • Experience maintaining robots, automation systems, or other complex hardware
  • Background in embedded systems, sensors, or motion control
  • Exposure to reliability testing, failure analysis, or hardware bring up

Perks

  • Full-time, Competitive Salary with equity
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance
  • Flexible Paid Vacation from day one
  • Paid Parental Leave
  • Life Insurance
  • 401k Plan available
