About this Job

The Electrical Controls Technician (ECT) will primarily support Supply Chain by troubleshooting, repairing, and maintenance of Electrical and Automation controls within the S3S fleet of electrical systems to ensure site locations remain operational while minimizing the swap-out occurrences. They are primarily responsible for the installation, loading programs, and troubleshooting of a variety of VFD, PLC and electrical product lines to ensure they remain functional, repaired in a timely manner, and in compliance with industry standards, HSE, and S3S-Standards.  Additional responsibilities will include assembling and wiring new controls and electrical systems utilizing BOMs and Schematics provided by engineering. When applicable help in training of team members on electrical systems and devices.

Position Overview: We are seeking a detail-oriented and safety-focused Electrical Controls Technician to support the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of electrical control systems at our Houston, Texas facility. This role focuses on maintaining reliable operation of control panels, motor control equipment, and automation-related electrical systems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  

  • Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair electrical control systems and equipment.
  • Support operation and maintenance of control panels, MCCs, and motor circuits.
  • Diagnose electrical and controls-related issues using schematics and diagnostic tools.
  • Assist with commissioning, testing, and modification of control systems.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on controls and field devices.
  • Work with variable frequency drives (VFDs), motors, and related control equipment.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control drawings.
  • Document troubleshooting activities, system changes, and maintenance work.
  • Coordinate with engineering, operations, and outside contractors as needed.
  • Ensure all work complies with electrical codes, safety standards, and company procedures.
  • Safety Compliance: Follow all safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment in the warehouse.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other team members to support warehouse operations and achieve departmental goals.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience in industrial or oilfield environments.
  • Familiarity with PLC-controlled systems and industrial automation.
  • Experience with major PLC platforms (Siemens, Omron, etc.).
  • Experience with HMI systems (Siemens WinCC, Omron CX-Design, etc.).
  • Exposure to sensors, instrumentation, and field devices.
  • Experience with 480 VAC variable speed drives (VFDs) under 250 HP (Siemens, Yaskawa, Eaton, Vacon, etc.).
  • Knowledge and sound understanding of NEC and OSHA safety standards.
  • Hands-on experience in electrical and/or controls systems.
  • Strong understanding of electrical control circuits and motor controls.
  • Ability to troubleshoot control systems using meters and basic test equipment.
  • Ability to use basic hand and power tools, read and understand basic measurement tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical and control schematics.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Minimum Required Education, Credentials, Licenses and Experience:

  • 18 years of age or older is required.

  • A high school diploma or GED is required.

  • 2 year Associates Degree in one of the following areas is preferred:

  • Electrical Engineering Technology

  • Industrial Automation

  • Electronics Technology

  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in:

  • Industrial electrical systems

  • Electrical and Controls panel assembly and wiring

  • Control systems troubleshooting and repair

  • PLC program loading and diagnostics

  • VFD installation, troubleshooting and parameter validation

  • Experience reading and interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, P&ID’s (process & instrumentation diagrams).

  • Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair electrical control systems and equipment.

  • Control panels, MCCs, and motor circuits.

  • Diagnose electrical and controls-related issues using schematics and diagnostic tools.

  • Commissioning, testing, and modification of control systems.

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on controls and field devices.

  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control drawings.
