PCB Design Engineer

Manassas, VA

Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop printed circuit boards (PCBs) for power and electronic systems
  • Create schematics, perform component selection, and generate bills of materials (BOMs)
  • Collaborate with PCB layout engineers to optimize component placement, routing, signal integrity, and thermal performance
  • Support circuit simulation and analysis using SPICE-based tools
  • Assist with PCB bring-up, testing, debugging, and design verification
  • Generate and maintain design documentation including schematics, assembly drawings, and specifications
  • Participate in design reviews and implement feedback from senior engineers
  • Support integration and testing of circuit boards within larger system assemblies
  • Apply IPC standards and PCB design best practices to ensure manufacturability and quality
  • Collaborate with mechanical, test, and manufacturing engineering teams

Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizenship is required by Federal Law
  • Education: Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or a related Science, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) field
  • Security Clearance: Active DoD Secret clearance required at time of hire

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PCB design coursework, academic projects, internships, or co-op experience
  • Experience with schematic capture and PCB design tools (Altium Designer, OrCAD Capture, KiCad, or similar)
  • Understanding of PCB layout fundamentals: trace width, impedance control, layer stack-up
  • Knowledge of analog and digital circuit design principles
  • Experience with circuit simulation tools (LTspice, PSpice, or similar)
  • Familiarity with signal integrity and high-speed design concepts
  • Exposure to power supply design (linear regulators, DC-DC converters)
  • Ability to interpret component datasheets and support component selection
  • Hands-on experience with lab equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, function generators)
  • Understanding of PCB manufacturing processes and design for manufacturability (DFM)
  • Familiarity with IPC standards (IPC-2221, IPC-2222, etc.)
  • Knowledge of thermal management and heat dissipation techniques
  • Experience with common communication interfaces (SPI, I2C, UART, USB)
  • Awareness of EMI/EMC design considerations
  • Exposure to microcontrollers or embedded systems
  • Senior design or capstone project involving custom PCB development
