About this Job
Core Molding Technologies is hiring a Controls Engineering Intern to support manufacturing operations, data analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
This paid internship provides hands-on experience in manufacturing operations by assisting with automation, PLC-controlled equipment, and robotics systems to improve safety, efficiency, and productivity. This role provides hands-on exposure to PLC programming, machine controls, electrical troubleshooting, and robotic systems within a manufacturing environment, while supporting continuous improvement and automation projects
What Youll Do
- Assist with PLC-controlled equipment, automation systems, and machine programming under the guidance of the engineering team
- Support automation and controls improvement projects, including equipment upgrades and system integration
- Assist with basic PLC programming, troubleshooting, and documentation
- Help troubleshoot production equipment using electrical schematics, test equipment, and PLC programs
- Support robotic systems, including basic path adjustments, testing, and operation support
- Assist with maintaining and organizing electrical panels and controls components
- Support safety devices such as light curtains and scanners as part of safety and compliance initiatives
- Participate in 6S and continuous improvement projects related to controls and automation
- Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and production teams to support plant operations
What Were Looking For
- Currently pursuing a degree in Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, Manufacturing, or related field
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Basic understanding of manufacturing and quality concepts
- Comfortable working with data and solving problems logically
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
- Strong attention to detail and organization
- Team-oriented with a positive, learning-focused attitude
Preferred
- Coursework in Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma
- Familiarity with IATF 16949, ISO 9001, or ISO 14001
- Experience with technical documentation or data analysis
- Interest in manufacturing, automotive, or plastics/composites environments
Job Details
- Position Type: Paid internship
- Schedule: Monday to Friday during business hours (flexible for school schedules)
- Travel: Minimal to none
- Work Environment: Office and manufacturing floor
- Physical Requirements: Occasionally lift/move up to 50 lbs
