Position Description

The CNC Maintenance Technician ensures the reliability, performance, and efficiency of computer numerical control (CNC) equipment used in the manufacturing of medical devices at Applied Medical. This role supports continuous production by maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing CNC machines and precision manufacturing equipment to minimize downtime and maintain quality standards. The CNC Maintenance Technician contributes to safe, compliant, and efficient medical device manufacturing by supporting preventative maintenance programs and collaborating with cross-functional manufacturing and engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance and routine service on CNC machines, EDM equipment, laser systems, and precision manufacturing equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues on CNC mills, lathes, and automated manufacturing systems to identify root causes and restore functionality.
  • Maintain and manage spare parts inventory for preventative maintenance and equipment repair to reduce downtime and support continuous production.
  • Follow planned maintenance schedules and standard operating procedures to ensure timely servicing of production equipment and minimize unplanned interruptions.
  • Document maintenance activities, repairs, and parts usage in computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) to maintain accurate service records and support regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, engineering, and facilities teams to resolve equipment issues and improve reliability of medical device production equipment.
  • Interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and electrical schematics to support equipment troubleshooting, repair, and process improvements.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance equipment performance, safety, and maintenance efficiency.

  • Maintain high equipment uptime and reliability across CNC machining and medical device manufacturing operations.
  • Resolve equipment malfunctions efficiently to minimize production disruptions and support on-time manufacturing.
  • Ensure preventative maintenance programs are executed consistently and documented accurately.
  • Strengthen collaboration with cross-functional teams to support operational efficiency and production quality.
  • Demonstrate proactive problem solving that improves machine performance, safety, and long-term reliability.
  • Support regulatory and quality standards required for medical device manufacturing environments.

Position Requirements

This position requires the following skills and attributes:

  • completion of high school education or equivalent.
  • minimum of two years of experience troubleshooting and repairing CNC mills, lathes, and manufacturing equipment in a production or industrial environment.
  • demonstrate proficiency in reading and interpreting technical manuals, blueprints, electrical diagrams, and mechanical schematics.
  • apply knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and basic computer skills for maintenance documentation and tracking.
  • utilize machine diagnostics and interpret machine alarm codes to troubleshoot and repair equipment issues.
  • demonstrate familiarity with wire and sinker electrical discharge machining (EDM), Makino equipment, Deckel Maho Gildemeister (DMG) machines, laser systems, and Swiss screw machines.
  • demonstrate ability to lift fifty pounds and perform physical maintenance tasks in a manufacturing environment.
  • demonstrate willingness to work flexible hours and respond to urgent or emergency maintenance needs.
  • demonstrate strong communication, teamwork, and collaboration skills within cross-functional manufacturing teams.

Preferred

The following skills and attributes are preferred:

  • complete technical or vocational training and obtain a maintenance or machining certificate from an accredited program.
  • demonstrate experience using diagnostic test equipment such as digital multimeters (DMM), amp probes, insulation testers, and oscilloscopes.
  • demonstrate experience troubleshooting nitrogen and oxygen generators, compressors, and facility support equipment.
  • demonstrate experience repairing electrical discharge machining (EDM), laser machining, and Swiss screw machining equipment in a production environment.
  • demonstrate knowledge of Fanuc, Okuma, and Siemens machine controls and industrial automation systems.
  • demonstrate reliability, initiative, and a proactive approach to preventative maintenance and continuous improvement.
