The Role:
At General Motors, theSenior Engineering Manager – VirtualTest Platformsplays a pivotal leadership role in advancing GM’s transformation into a software-defined, customer-centric mobility company. This position focuses onvirtualembeddedsystems, includingvirtual mechatronics,digital twin technology, virtual prototyping, and integrated mechanical-electrical-softwareplatforms that enable next-generation vehicle development.
You will lead engineering teams responsible for designing and deliveringvirtualtestenvironmentsand mechatronic integration frameworks. This role requires a blend of technical depth, strategic vision, andpeopleleadership to ensure GMremainsat the forefront of innovation in electrification, autonomy, and connected vehicle ecosystems.
WhatYou’llDo:
Lead and Develop Teams:
Manageandengineering teamand/or managersspecializing in virtual mechatronics and simulation technologies.
Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.
Drive Technical Strategy:
Define and execute engineering roadmaps for virtual mechatronics platforms aligned with GM’s enterprise architecture and product development goals.
Champion adoption ofdigital twin technology, virtualized testing environments, and model-based designpractices.
Deliver Scalable Solutions:
Ensure delivery of high-quality, reliable virtual simulation environments and mechatronic integration tools.
Oversee system performance, scalability, and cost optimization for virtual engineering platforms.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Partner with product development, software engineering, hardware teams, and suppliers to enable seamless integration of mechanical, electrical, and software systems.
Drive alignment between virtual and physical validation processes.
Operational Excellence:
Establish best practices for virtual engineering workflows, includingsimulationlifecycle management, CI/CD for models, and data governance.
Lead incident reviews and continuous improvement for virtual platform reliability.
Talent Strategy:
Support workforce planning and succession strategies for emerging technical roles in mechatronics and simulation.
Mentor technical leaders and engineers to build future-ready capabilities.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
Bachelor’s degree inSoftware engineering, Electrical,or MechanicalEngineering, or related field
10+ years of experience inSoftwareEngineering, with 3+ years in leadership roles managing technical teams.
Proven experience inMCU/low-level firmware systems andvirtualization platforms
Strong understanding of**multi-domain integration (mechanical, electrical, software)**and virtual validation workflows.
Ability to balance technical depth with leadership and business execution.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
Experience withdigital twin platforms, MBSE tools (e.g., Siemens Teamcenter, Dassault CATIA), and simulation software.
Background inlarge-scale, mission criticalsystems or advanced R&D environments.
Familiarity with cloud-basedvirtualizationenvironments and high-performance computing.
Demonstrated success leading teams throughvirtualization and digital transformation initiatives.
Company Vehicle: Upon successful completion of a motor vehicle report review, you will be eligible to participate in a company vehicle evaluation program, through which you will be assigned a General Motors vehicle to drive and evaluate. Note: program participants are required to purchase/lease a qualifying GM vehicle every four years unless one of a limited number of exceptions applies.
Compensation: The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position, as well as geography of the selected candidate.
The salary range for this role is ($216,000 and $331,000). The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.

This role is based remotely, but if the selected candidate lives within a specific mile radius of a GM hub, they will be expected to report to the location three times a week {or other frequency dictated by your manager}. This job may be eligible for relocation benefits.
