Job Summary The Field Service Technician provides on-site technical support for customers to promote Nordson Nonwovens technology. The position entails assisting with installation, troubleshooting, start-ups, technical counseling, and recommendations of Nordson parts in use of Nonwovens equipment operation and preventative maintenance. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
Provide on-site technical support to customers to promote Nordson Nonwovens technology. Support could be in the form of start-up service, maintenance, training or general technical counseling.
Perform a detailed review of the project assigned prior to departure to ensure proper drawings of equipment are attained, understand function capability for each component and communicate with customer, engineers or the technology department if questions exist.
Perform the maintenance necessary to enable the customer to begin or continue their operation. This can include examination and cleaning of equipment, replacing defective parts, adjusting process parameters, and installation and/or assembly of equipment.
Responsible for preparing a tool kit with the correct set of tools and items necessary to perform their duties at the customer’s facility.
Use various hand and power tools, hoists, dollies, rollers and trucks as appropriate, to complete the service call.
Coordinate and schedule calls required at the customer's facility in order to accommodate the customers’ requirements.
Summarize on a timely basis within one week of the visit the issues that were covered at the customer's facility in the form of a written service report. This ensures documentation for future reference and gives guidance to our engineering department to provide corrective action where required.
Provide technical support when telephone calls are received from customers. Support would include providing written instructions, verbal instructions or any communication needed to answer the customer. Consult with engineering and/or manufacturing as necessary to resolve a customer issue.
Make courtesy calls to customer plants to perform vitality / health checks of Nordson Nonwovens equipment to support Nordson’s spare parts revenue growth
Close and frequent communication with Nordson Sales & Account Management to ensure alignment on account strategies related to system sales opportunities and spare parts usage.
Education and Experience Requirements*
High school diploma or GED
Associates degree or vocational school certificate preferred
Strong mechanical and electrical skills
PLC programming and troubleshooting skills preferred
Minimum 2 years of experience
Preferred Skills and Abilities*
Proven exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, to share technical knowledge with customers and colleagues
Demonstrated ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, diagrams, specifications and product manuals
Excellent customer service skills
Intermediate computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office products. ERP system experience a plus.
Willingness to travel at a minimum of 50% of time
Ability to learn new things quickly
Self-starter
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
Employee may be required to work in a noisy and/or dusty factory environment during on-site customer support. Appropriate personal protective equipment may be required (safety glasses, hearing protection, safety shoes, etc.). Employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 26-39 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40-60 pounds.
