About this Job

About the Project:

The Eglinton Crosstown West Extension will bring the Eglinton Crosstown LRT another 9.2 kilometers farther west, creating a continuous rapid transit line from the east end of Toronto into Mississauga. The Stations, Rail, and Systems (SRS) package encompasses the design, construction, integration, and commissioning of key project components.

Position Overview:

The Telecom / SCADA Engineer is responsible for the engineering, coordination, and integration of telecommunications and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems across a major rail transit infrastructure project delivered by Trillium Rail Partners (TRP). This role ensures telecom and SCADA systems are designed, installed, tested, and commissioned in accordance with project requirements, safety standards, and operational needs.

Working within a complex design-build / P3 environment, the Telecom / SCADA Engineer interfaces closely with systems engineering, construction, integration, testing & commissioning, and operations teams to deliver resilient, secure, and fully integrated control and communications systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the design, implementation, and integration of telecom and SCADA systems across stations, guideways, tunnels, and facilities.

  • Systems may include:

    • SCADA and remote monitoring/control systems
    • Data networks and fiber optic backbone
    • Field devices, PLCs, RTUs, and HMIs
    • Communications interfaces with power, traction power, ventilation, and life-safety systems
  • Ensure systems meet functional, performance, cybersecurity, and reliability requirements.

  • Review and coordinate telecom and SCADA design packages, drawings, specifications, and technical submittals.

  • Support resolution of RFIs, technical queries, and design changes.

  • Ensure alignment and interface compatibility with signaling, power, communications, and operations systems.

  • Provide technical support to construction teams during installation of telecom and SCADA infrastructure.

  • Participate in site walks, inspections, and coordination meetings related to systems installation.

  • Support resolution of installation issues, deficiencies, and non-conformances.

  • Support factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), and integrated testing activities.

  • Coordinate with systems integration and commissioning teams to ensure SCADA and telecom systems are ready for operational use.

  • Assist with validation of system functionality, alarms, controls, and interfaces.

  • Support QA/QC processes related to telecom and SCADA systems.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, cybersecurity requirements, and transit authority specifications.

  • Assist with preparation of as-built documentation, system architecture diagrams, and operations & maintenance manuals.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience working with telecom and/or SCADA systems on infrastructure, utilities, or transit projects.
  • Familiarity with industrial control systems, networking, and system integration principles.
  • Experience working in design-build and/or P3 project environments is an asset.
  • Exposure to rail, transit, or safety-critical infrastructure projects is preferred
  • Strong technical and analytical skills with a systems-engineering mindset.
  • Ability to manage interfaces across multiple disciplines and stakeholders.
  • Clear communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts.
  • Proficiency with technical documentation, testing procedures, and reporting tools (e.g., MS Office; systems databases an asset).
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, and quality-focused approach.
