About this Job

We’re hiring a Robotic Automation Technician to maintain, troubleshoot, and continuously improve mission-critical large-format robotic welding systems supporting the production of large steel assemblies (including cut and fabricated steel tubes) in a heavy fabrication environment.

This is a hands-on technical role for someone who can diagnose and resolve complex automation and equipment issues under pressure—where downtime matters and the equipment is central to throughput. You’ll own preventative maintenance, breakdown response, repairs, and documentation for robotic welding cells, partnering closely with production, engineering, and integrators to keep the systems running safely and reliably.

The primary focus is robotic welding automation: large-format ABB welding robots on a sliding rail system, peripheral equipment, sensor/feedback systems, and the mechanical/electrical components that enable consistent weld quality and uptime. Technicians in this role coordinate with one another to manage work across multiple cells and support large-format fabrication workflows.

Compensation

  • Competitive market wages

Shifts

  • Four 12-hour days, with occasional 5th day as business demands
  • Flexible schedule as required for uptime, training, or commissioning support
  • Travel may be required for training or support

Benefits

  • Medical Insurance, dental, vision
  • Company Matched 401(k)
  • Tuition Reimbursement
  • PTO

Responsibilities

  • Robotic Welding System Troubleshooting & Uptime – Troubleshoot mission-critical ABB robotic welding systems (rail-mounted large-format cells), quickly identifying root cause across controls, electrical, mechanical, and process-related failure modes to minimize downtime.
  • Preventive & Corrective Maintenance – Execute a robust PM program for robotic welding cells and peripheral equipment; perform corrective maintenance to restore function and protect throughput and weld quality.
  • Robot & Peripheral Repairs – Disassemble and reassemble robots and peripherals for repair, including replacement of circuit boards, sensors, controllers, encoders, servomotors, cables, and related components.
  • Automation Equipment Support – Assemble, install, and support automation equipment or components as required; assist integrators with commissioning, decommissioning, and equipment changes.
  • Controls, Sensors & Feedback Systems – Diagnose issues involving microprocessors, programmable controllers, electronics, circuit analysis, and sensor/feedback systems; validate proper operation and calibration after repairs.
  • Mechanical Systems, Hydraulics & Pneumatics – Troubleshoot and service supporting systems including mechanical assemblies, pneumatics, hydraulics, fixturing, and motion components that impact robot performance.
  • Service Records & Documentation – Maintain accurate service records for robotic and automated production systems; document faults, repairs, parts usage, and follow-up actions to support reliability and continuous improvement.
  • Parts, Sensors & Cable Inventory – Manage and maintain inventory of critical automation spares (sensors, cables, boards, consumables, etc.), ensuring readiness for breakdown response.
  • Fabrication, Jigs & Fixtures – Fabricate or modify jigs/fixtures using metalworking tools (welding, plasma cutting, grinding) to support repairs, improvements, and production needs.
  • Site Readiness & Safety Compliance – Inspect installation sites for readiness and compliance; ensure safe startup after changes, repairs, or commissioning activity.
  • Cross-Functional Coordination – Coordinate closely with other technicians, production leads, and engineering to prioritize work, manage downtime events, and support large-format steel assembly manufacturing flow.
  • Technology & Systems Usage – Fully utilize PCs, software tools, and proprietary systems; support ERP-related workflows as needed.
  • Continuous Improvement & Change Support – Stay informed on product/process changes; update maintenance procedures and schedules to reduce downtime and improve cell reliability over time.
  • Support of Related Fabrication Equipment – Troubleshoot and service supporting fabrication equipment as needed (e.g., robotic plasma systems, press brakes, plasma tables).

Required

  • Education – High School Diploma or GED.
  • Robotics / Automation Experience – 3–5 years of relevant experience in automation or robotics (or equivalent combination of education and experience), with hands-on troubleshooting responsibilities.
  • Robotic Welding Exposure – Demonstrated experience supporting robotic welding systems in a production environment (breakdown response, repairs, preventive maintenance, and uptime ownership).
  • Troubleshooting Capability – Strong diagnostic skill across electrical/electronic systems, programmable controllers, sensors/feedback, motion components, and mechanical systems.
  • Manufacturing / Metal Fabrication Environment – Experience working in a metal manufacturing or heavy fabrication setting with high uptime expectations.
  • Computer Skills – Intermediate computer skills; comfortable using maintenance documentation tools and production systems (ERP exposure a plus).

Preferred

  • ABB Robotics Experience – Hands-on experience with ABB robotic systems (especially large-format cells and rail-mounted configurations).
  • Robotic Welding Certifications – Relevant certifications in robotics, automation, electrical troubleshooting, or controls-related disciplines.
  • Education – Associate degree in Engineering, Industrial Management, or related field (or meaningful progress toward a degree such as 60 credit hours).

Benefits

  • Medical Insurance, dental, vision
  • Company Matched 401(k)
  • Tuition Reimbursement
  • PTO

Laborup

Privately Held

Laborup is solving the labor crisis across the U.S. industrial base. We use AI to transform how manufacturers hire, connecting companies with vetted, skilled workers faster and more efficiently than ever before. By eliminating friction in the hiring process, we help manufacturers fill critical roles, keep production on track, and strengthen America’s workforce. The industrial economy is in crisis. Manufacturers are crippled by labor shortages, struggling to find the skilled workers they need. By 2030, 2.1 million manufacturing jobs will go unfilled, leaving supply chains vulnerable and production stalled. This isn’t just an economic issue—it’s a national security threat. The defense industry, critical infrastructure, and manufacturers that keep America running cannot operate without a reliable workforce. Meanwhile, outdated, expensive hiring models are failing. Companies spend months trying to fill roles, only to face high turnover and costly delays. We believe manufacturers and workers everywhere deserve better.
