PACKAGING TECHNICIAN
Food Safety Role & Responsibility:
As an individual, the incumbent must understand the Food Safety Statement, complete the required training, perform work assignments in accordance with training and display an acceptable level of competency with all Quality Assurance/Safety/Security policies and training requirements. Areas of food safety training will include, but are not limited to, GMP, HACCP, facility security, visitor policy and mandatory safety training.
The individual must also request additional and/or refresher training if he or she feels that it is needed to effectively perform requirements in specific areas of responsibility.
Summary:
Packaging Technician is responsible for safely maintaining, repairing, replacing and modifying all processing, packaging and facility equipment with optimal quality and efficiency.
Job Function Statements - Essential Functions:
1. High level of expertise in packaging machines that include being able to operate, repair and maintain Bosch, Hayssen and Illapak machines.
2. Shall be capable of troubleshooting, electrical, electronics and pneumatics.
3. Knowledgeable in interlocks, conveyors, Ishida weigh scales, SSC (twin machines), MDT (single machines) and conveyors.
4. Ability to perform preventative maintenance as needed.
5. Knowledgeable in motors, gearboxes, industrial controls, PLC programs and logic controls.
6. Knowledgeable on tape machines (carton sealer equipment 3M and Little David).
7. Ability to operate, repair and maintain ink jet printers.
Required Qualifications/Skills:
1. 1. Ability to apply advanced skills and may develop advanced skills using tools and equipment appropriate for the position or specialization.
2. Adapts procedures, processes, tools, equipment and techniques to accomplish the requirements of the position.
3. Duties and tasks reflect substantial variety and complexity.
4. Assignments are broad in nature and usually require originality and ingenuity.
5. May serve as a resource to others in the resolution of complex problems and issues.
6. Works under general supervision.
Other Desired Qualifications/Skills:
Physical Requirements: the employee is required to stand for extended periods of time (duration of the shift, 8 hours or more); walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop; kneel; crouch; bend continuously; or crawl. The incumbent must be able to climb stairs and ladders or step up onto a platform several times throughout the shift; and is occasionally required to sit. The employee must be able to push/pull/lift and/or move 50 pounds. The incumbent must operate light motorized equipment, hand and power tools skillfully and safely.
Work Environment: the employee is occasionally exposed to wet/cold conditions of 34 - 36 degrees and also at times hot conditions; high, precarious places (ex: 25 feet above ground level for extended hours); and outside weather conditions (rooftop). The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to occasionally loud, which may require hearing protection.
1. Ability to use a multi-meter and other measurement instruments.
2. Ability to troubleshoot PLC controls, such as Allen-Bradley, GE Fanuc.
3. Fabricate and modify parts using shop equipment; utilizing sanitary welding equipment procedures
4. Ability to work with computer programs, such as Word and Excel.
5. Ability to demonstrate proficient fabrication and welding systems.
6. Ability to demonstrate welding skills.
Operate our CMMS system and demonstrate 100% functionality in order to complete work orders as well as log corrective maintenance issues in the system.
Experience:
Minimum 2-4 year's experience with industrial, high-speed processing, packaging, weighing, filling and inspection equipment OR minimum one-year technical training/school.
Education/Training:
High School diploma or equivalency (such as a technical degree) required; specific technical training to support the Maintenance Skills Summary.
