Your role and responsibilities  

ABB Traction plays a critical role in shaping the future of electrified mobility. Through our traction motors and Mobile ePower solutions, we enable customers globally to achieve higher efficiency, reliability, and sustainability in rail and off-highway applications. We combine global scale with strong local execution to deliver performance, innovation, and long-term value.  

In this role, you will have the opportunity to lead a team of Research and Development (R&D) employees and support them in achieving the agreed R&D targets. Each day, you will coach and develop the team. You will also showcase your expertise by helping in managing technologies, platforms, and Intellectual Property.

The work model for the role is: onsite

This role is contributing to the Traction Division in China.

You will be mainly accountable for:

  • Deeply involved in motors new product development and make sure that the development results achieve planned objectives.
  • Serving as a technical resource for the team and providing technical support for internal and external contacts. Continuously study on the new technology trend of relevant motors and propulsion system, with a good understanding of the target markets trend.
  • Planning and ensuring an appropriate project portfolio for the team, and delivering results. Contributing to technical bodies relevant to ABB R&D, inside and outside the company.
  • Developing and acquiring competencies that will be needed for the development of traction systems and solutions for rail and off-highway vehicles.

Qualifications for the role

  • Master degree or above in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering or related fields
  • You have 10+ years of experience in motors design and development, with very strong technical competence in either Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering, or both
  • You have profound management experience
  • You are immersed in working with motors design software and simulation tools and the industrial motors market. Good knowledge of industrial motors manufacturing processes including equipment, and supply chain.
  • Possess an enhanced knowledge of Solidworks, CAD, Ansys
  • You are passionate about PM motors technology and new motors technology development. Proven experience of motors development in traction propulsion system for rail and off-highway vehicles applications
  • As a member of global Traction R&D community, you are at ease communicating in Chinese and English
