About This Opportunity

We are seeking Lecturers / Senior Lecturers with a strong background in teaching and research, particularly in the discipline of robotics / mechatronic engineering. We currently offering 2 vacancies, 1 at the School of Mechanical and Mining Engineering and 1 at the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.

These positions include coordination of courses, supervision of Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students, completing assigned service roles and engagement with industry partners.

We value collaborative research efforts and expect you to actively participate in research networks within and beyond the University, while building and running an effective research program in robotic and mechatronic engineering. Key responsibilities at Academic level B will include: 

  • Teaching and Learning: Design, coordinate and deliver high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, including curriculum innovation, assessment, student supervision and academic support. Contribute to program development and continuous improvement by aligning courses with industry needs, student feedback, university policies and academic standards, while collaborating with colleagues and stakeholders to enhance the student learning experience.

  • Research: Develop and lead high-quality research aligned with strategic priorities, securing external funding, publishing impactful outcomes, and applying best-practice, ethical research methods. Collaborate with colleagues and postgraduate students on interdisciplinary projects that enhance research capability and contribute to the School’s research profile.

  • Supervision and Researcher Development: Supervise students, recruit and manage employees, provide performance feedback and training, resolve conflicts, and ensure correct remuneration and benefits.

  • Citizenship and Service: Develop partnerships, demonstrate leadership through mentoring, engage in internal service roles and committees, perform administrative functions, provide support to colleagues, and uphold university values.

Additional to the duties above, Academic level C will include: 

  • Provide academic leadership in research and research training through the supervision of higher degree research students, the development of strategic collaborations, and the delivery of high-quality research outcomes. Secure and manage external research funding, publish impactful research, enhance teaching and academic programs, and contribute to industry engagement, leadership activities, and the translation of research into practical outcomes.

About You

For appointment at Level B

  • PhD completion in robotics or mechatronic engineering and a record of research in this field.

  • A growing profile in teaching and research in the field. 

  • A developing reputation and track record of publications in reputed refereed journals and presenting at conferences. 

  • Evidence of successfully seeking, obtaining, and managing external research funding. 

  • Evidence of a high level of quality teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level across a variety of settings, including small and large groups. 

  • Experience in course coordination and contribution to the development and continuous innovation of new programs, curriculum design and course material in the discipline area. 

  • A growing record of supervision of undergraduate, postgraduate coursework, and HDR students to successful completion. 

  • Experience in meaningful internal service roles in conjunction with active contributions to external activities.

 

For appointment at Level C 

Selection criteria as listed above, in addition to the following: 

  • National recognition in the area of expertise, with an internationally developing profile and an established record of publications in reputed-referred journals and conference presentations. 

  • A strong track record of course coordination and participation in the development and continuous innovation of new programs, curriculum design and course material in the discipline area. 

  • A solid record of supervision of undergraduate, postgraduate coursework, and HDR students to successful completion. 

  • A growing record of meaningful internal service roles in conjunction with a strong contribution to external activities.
