Role Summary The Technical Project Manager for Industrial Automation & Robotics leads specific project automation strategy and engineering team to drive Collins Singapore’s transition toward lights-out machining, autonomous robotic cells, and advanced manufacturing technologies.

This leader oversees a multidisciplinary team covering robotics, controls, machine vision, CNC automation, and material-handling automation. A key responsibility is to provide strong technical project management in new growth areas such as advanced manufacturing transformation, engineering digitalization, new parts and process development, and innovation initiatives that elevate factory capability and competitiveness.

The role collaborates closely with Operations, Engineering, Quality, Digital Technology, and global Collins teams to deliver scalable automation solutions that strengthen productivity, quality, safety, and long-term manufacturing resilience.

Roles & Responsibilities

1\. Technical & Strategic Leadership

  • Define and drive the automation and robotics strategy for modernization projects to support Collins’ Lights-Out Manufacturing and Factory of the Future roadmap.

  • Translate operational and machining challenges into engineered automation concepts with clear value creation.

  • Lead solution development for robotic machining support, machine tending, material handling systems, autonomous cells, and AI-enabled vision inspection.

2\. Team Leadership & Capability Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing automation engineering team (robotics, controls, vision, simulation, integration).

  • Establish engineering standards, software frameworks, safety practices, and reusable automation libraries.

  • Develop team capability in virtual commissioning, OT/IT integration, robotics programming, and advanced controls engineering.

3\. Automation System Design & Deployment Oversight

  • Lead requirements definition, SOR development, technical specifications, automation architecture, and FAT/SAT validation.

  • Review robot programs, PLC logic, EOAT/fixture designs, machine-vision setups, and system integration diagrams.

  • Ensure compliance to global Collins standards, machining process requirements, and safety systems (ISO 10218, 13849, IEC 61508).

4\. Project Management & Vendor Leadership

  • Oversee multi-million-dollar automation projects — scope, budget, schedule, risk, quality, and operational readiness.

  • Manage vendors and system integrators, evaluate equipment proposals, negotiate specifications, and govern technical execution.

  • Drive structured commissioning, validation, production ramp-up, and continuous improvement cycles.

5\. Technology Benchmarking & Continuous Improvement

  • Benchmark advanced robotics and automation trends from aerospace, automotive, semiconductor, and precision engineering.

  • Improve uptime, reliability, OEE, cycle time, and automation robustness through engineered improvements.

  • Lead engineering contributions to Singapore Operations long-term automation roadmap.

Qualifications & Skills

Education

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Robotics, or related fields.

Experience

  • 10–15 years in robotics, industrial automation, machining automation, or precision engineering.

  • At least 3–5 years leading engineering teams or supervising technical specialists.

  • Strong experience integrating robotics, PLCs, CNCs, machine vision, and automated machining workflows.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in robot programming (ABB, Fanuc, KUKA, UR), PLC programming, motion control, and automation simulation tools.

  • Strong understanding of CNC machining automation, fixturing, cycle-time modelling, and end-of-arm tooling design.

  • Experience with OPC UA, MQTT, industrial Ethernet, EtherCAT/ProfiNet, and integration to MES/SCADA/IIoT platforms.

  • Knowledge of safety systems, risk assessments, FMEA/HIRA, and machine safety compliance.

Leadership Skills

  • Proven ability to build technical teams, mentor engineers, manage complex projects, and influence cross-functional stakeholders.

  • Strong communication, decision-making, structured problem solving, and vendor management capability.
