About the job:
Kent is seeking a motivated, detail oriented I&C Commissioning Specialist to support large-scale LNG and Oil & Gas projects in Port Arthur, TX.
In this role, you will assist the commissioning team with instrumentation and control system activities under the guidance of the Commissioning Lead. Responsibilities include supporting system testing, basic fault-finding, and verifying instrumentation and control system functionality to ensure compliance with project specifications, HSE requirements, and OEM standards prior to energization and start-up.

- Execute and lead commissioning of LNG I&C systems, including DCS, PLC, SIS/ESD, fire & gas, and field instrumentation (loop checks, calibration, logic testing, dynamic verification).
- Coordinate with Engineering, Construction, Start-Up, Operations, and vendors to ensure safe, compliant system readiness through handover.
- Provide technical directions to technicians and system owners, drive Systems Completion in alignment with area schedules.
- Verify installation, configuration, and testing comply with project specifications, control narratives, cause-and-effect matrices, and LNG process safety requirements.
- Support MC, Pre-comm, commissioning, FAT/SAT, and start-up of critical LNG systems, ensuring functional safety and operability of shutdown and safeguarding systems.
- Manage commissioning documentation, including test records, punch lists, dossiers, and turnover packages; maintain loop tracking and systems completion databases.
- Plan and manage I&C resources, tools, and test equipment to meet execution and schedule targets.
- Ensure strict compliance with HSE standards, permit-to-work systems, and isolation procedures in a live LNG environment.
- Report progress against commissioning milestones and support daily coordination meetings.
- Perform additional duties as required to support commissioning and start-up activities.
In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employees’ current workload and with respect to their professional development.
Yourknowledge/skills,education,andexperience:
- Diploma or bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Instrumentation, Automation, or related field.
- 10+ years of relevant experience in commissioning and start-up within the oil & gas or LNG sector, including major EPC or brownfield projects.
- Proven experience with DCS, SIS, FGS, and PLC-based control systems.
- Strong understanding of instrument calibration, loop testing, control logic verification, and dynamic commissioning.
- Knowledge of fiber optic communication networks, industrial communication protocols (Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP), and interface management.
- Familiarity with ISA, IEC, API, and project-specific instrumentation standards.
- Strong planning, scheduling, and progress-tracking skills for commissioning phase execution.
Communication:
- Read, write, and speak fluent English, especially as required to function effectively within a project team and to communicate with project management, contractors, and subcontractors.

- Ability to analyze PLC and control system issues methodically and propose practical solutions under supervision.

- Takes ownership of assigned tasks and shows accountability for accuracy, system reliability, and documentation quality.
- Supports technical discussions and works effectively with cross-functional teams (electrical, I&C, mechanical, operations) to resolve control-related issues.
- Maintains strong situational awareness during equipment startup and testing activities.
- Communicates technical information clearly to team members and field personnel.
- Performs effectively in fast-paced environments while maintaining professionalism and composure.
- Demonstrates organized work habits and disciplined documentation to ensure traceability and compliance.
- Shows commitment to workplace safety and follows established safety procedures and best practices.
- Physically capable of performing field-related duties, including lifting up to 50 lbs. when required.
