Job Description

STMicroelectronics (Malta) Ltd. is seeking to recruit a Facility SCADA / FMCS Engineer to support its advanced semiconductor manufacturing site. The ideal candidate is analytical, proactive, and highly collaborative, with a strong interest in automation, energy management, and facility monitoring systems. The role focuses on ensuring robust 24/7 plant operations through SCADA/FMCS, PLC systems, and data‑driven optimization of energy and facility performance.

Duties & Responsibilities The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Operate and monitor facility systems remotely via SCADA/FMCS to ensure optimal and reliable plant performance.
  • Act as a specialist interface with advanced facility system owners and contractors to understand configurations, command/control logic, and data acquisition needs, and integrate them into the centralized SCADA system.
  • Design and develop SCADA graphic pages, coordinate installation and integration of instrumentation (hardware/software), and support the team in effective SCADA usage.
  • Implement integration projects for new systems and technologies into SCADA and expand monitoring coverage (e.g. new sensors, new areas).
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on PLC and SCADA systems to ensure robust and reliable semiconductor production support.
  • Troubleshoot SCADA and PLC communication or system failures and restore operations promptly.
  • Lead and support Energy Management and cost optimization initiatives, including identification and analysis of energy‑saving opportunities, energy audits, forecasting, data analysis, and feasibility studies, ensuring alignment with ISO 50001.
  • Contribute to CAPEX planning and cross‑functional facility projects, ensuring quality, cost, and on‑time delivery targets are met.
  • Perform statistical analysis of critical equipment and sustainability (energy and water) data to assess system robustness and identify opportunities for green initiatives.
  • Support SPC implementation for data acquisition and define OOC and OOS limits.
  • Support and participate in automation programs in the new advanced backend manufacturing building.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers, specialists, vendors, operators, technicians, and maintenance personnel to ensure 24/7 continuous plant operation.

Skills & Qualifications The ideal candidate shall:

  • Master's degree in Electronics & Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in Facility Monitoring & Control Systems (FMCS) and electrical systems.
  • Familiarity with SCADA and PLC systems (operation, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance).
  • Strong skills with office and data tools (e.g. Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI, Office suite).
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and data‑driven decision‑making abilities.
  • Good English communication skills (spoken and written), with the ability to prepare clear technical documentation and presentations.
  • Agile, result‑driven, with a positive “can‑do” mindset.
  • Demonstrated leadership, taking initiative and communicating with clarity and conviction while working effectively in cross‑functional teams.
