At Medtronic you can begin a life-long career of exploration and innovation, while helping champion healthcare access and equity for all. You’ll lead with purpose, breaking down barriers to innovation in a more connected, compassionate world.

A Day in the Life

At Medtronic, we are driven by our Mission to alleviate pain, restore health, and extend life. Within Surgical Robotics (RST), we are advancing minimally invasive surgery through innovative robotic platforms. The Release Product Engineering (RPE) team plays a critical role in sustaining and enhancing released products, ensuring reliability, quality, and continuity of supply for our surgical robotic systems.

As an Electrical Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of electrical engineers responsible for sustaining engineering, lifecycle management, and continuous improvement of complex electrical systems across Medtronic’s launched robotic platforms. This includes ownership of design changes, component obsolescence, supplier transfers, and field issue resolution within a regulated medical device environment.

As an Electrical Engineering Manager for the RST RPE group, you will work in close collaboration with other R&D functions such as Mechanical, Product Engineering, Software and Systems engineers. You will lead and develop a high-performing team of electrical engineers supporting our released surgical robotics platform. The focus of this electrical engineering team expands across power distribution, computing and networking, visualization, and mechatronics of our capital equipment, as well as electronics supporting our consumables and robotic instrumentation equipment.

If RPE projects are within your core field of expertise and needed, you might represent the R&D Hardware function as a project core team member, working alongside Marketing, Quality, Regulatory, Program Management and Operations to make critical decisions regarding projects execution and future product roadmaps within RPE.

If you are a pioneer and would like to have a big impact into the new world of medical robotics – then come join our team!

You Will:

  • Lead and develop a high-performing team of electrical engineers supporting released RST products
  • Own lifecycle management of electrical systems, including PCBAs, power distribution, interconnects, and control subsystems
  • Drive engineering changes (ECOs), cost reduction initiatives, and design improvements while maintaining product compliance
  • Lead investigations into field issues, nonconformances, and reliability concerns; perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions
  • Partner with manufacturing, quality, regulatory, and supply chain teams to ensure product continuity and supply stability
  • Manage component obsolescence strategies, second sourcing, and AVL alignment
  • Ensure continued compliance with applicable standards (e.g., IEC 60601, ISO 14971, IPC) for released products
  • Oversee verification and validation activities associated with design changes
  • Support audits, regulatory submissions, and documentation updates for design changes
  • Collaborate with New Product Development (NPD) teams to ensure smooth design transfer and long-term support readiness
  • Drive continuous improvement in product performance, reliability, and cost
  • Manage project execution, resources, timelines, and technical deliverables across sustaining initiatives

Must Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 7+ years of relevant electrical engineering experience
  • 2+ years of engineering leadership or people management experience

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with design and development of capital and consumable medical devices.
  • Prior history of product development from concept through launch and transfer to manufacturing.
  • Significant history with regulatory needs and standards in particular IEC60601-1.
  • Experience in electrical safety and EMC / ESD testing and design techniques.
  • Digital and analog hardware design: Prior experience with custom digital, analog, and power electronics circuit design, as well as off-the shelf equipment.
  • Experience with network and communication protocols.
  • Familiarity with BIOS / UEFI and QNX / Linux operating systems.
  • High understanding in video and vision processing.
  • Experience with implementing Cybersecurity.
  • Seasoned user of electronic design and analysis tools, e.g. OrCAD, Allegro, HyperLynx.
  • Experience with DRM and design for cost.
  • Background and involvement in performing risk management.
  • Experience in FDA regulated product delivery.
  • Hands-on mentality.

Leadership Expectations

  • Build and sustain a collaborative, accountable, and execution-focused team culture
  • Mentor and develop engineers across both technical depth and career growth
  • Drive disciplined engineering practices in design control and change management
  • Communicate clearly with stakeholders, including senior leadership
  • Balance speed, risk, cost, and compliance in a sustaining engineering environment
