Job Summary We are seeking an Autonomy Engineer to design, build, and operate platform capabilities that enable autonomy and AI-driven applications on Caterpillar’s on-premises infrastructure. This role focuses on delivering scalable, reliable, and production-ready platform services to support autonomy workloads across industrial environments. The Engineer will work closely with platform, SRE, and application teams to integrate autonomy solutions, improve system reliability, and accelerate delivery using modern DevOps and platform engineering practices.

  • Key Responsibilities*

  • Design, develop, and integrate platform capabilities supporting autonomy and AI workloads on on-prem infrastructure

  • Build and operate highly available, scalable services aligned with platform standards and architecture

  • Collaborate with platform, SRE, and security teams to ensure production readiness, reliability, and compliance

  • Develop and enhance deployment pipelines, automation, and observability for autonomy systems

  • Test, troubleshoot, and optimize system performance across autonomy and platform components

  • Support integration of autonomy applications with Kubernetes-based platform services and infrastructure

  • Contribute to continuous improvement through adoption of DevOps practices, automation, and reusable components

  • Participate in Agile/SAFe teams to deliver features aligned with program priorities

  • Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience

  • 4+ years of experience in software engineering, platform engineering, or distributed systems

  • Strong programming skills in one or more languages (e.g., Python, Java, Go)

  • Experience with Linux, containers, and microservices-based systems

  • Working knowledge of Kubernetes and container orchestration in production environments

  • Understanding of CI/CD, DevOps practices, and system monitoring

  • Preferred Qualifications*

  • Experience with on-prem or air-gapped platform environments

  • Exposure to AI/ML or autonomy-based systems and applications

  • Experience with infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform, Ansible)

  • Familiarity with observability tools and SRE practices

  • Experience working in industrial, mission-critical, or large-scale enterprise environments

  • Key Skills / Competencies*

  • Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Agile delivery

  • Platform and distributed systems fundamentals

  • Problem solving and debugging in production systems

  • Collaboration across cross-functional engineering teams
