Position Summary:
The Automation Engineering Technician is a fantastic role for anyone who likes to design, fix, and repair automated systems. It is meant to be a steppingstone for fantastic techs who are ready to grow into other engineering roles/functions. The role will require approximately 50% travel to customer sites to install or repair automated systems for Fortune 500 companies, and the remaining 50%will be used to assist Senior Automation Technicians in their duties as well as updating and maintaining accurate records, scheduling follow on maintenance, and inventorying spare parts and tool logs. On-call support may be required on certain occasions.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of automated conveyor, sorter, and robotic systems.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic issues in real time.
- Work alongside controls engineers to monitor and adjust PLC and HMI systems (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.).
- Assist in system startups, safety checks, and commissioning of new automation equipment.
- Operate forklifts and other powered industrial equipment safely and efficiently.
- Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying root causes of downtime and proposing solutions.
- Maintain accurate service logs and communicate effectively with operations and engineering teams.
Qualifications and Essential Skills Required:
Associates degree, preferred but not required
4+ years’ experience in industrial maintenance, warehouse automation, or a related field.
Basic understanding of electrical circuits, sensors, and PLC logic (training provided).
Ability to read mechanical and electrical schematics.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, safety-focused warehouse environment.
Willingness to learn and grow within advanced automation and robotics systems.
Certified in the ability to operate a Forklift.
Certified in the ability to operate a Scissor Lift.
