Thesis - Model-Based Quantitative Assessment of Integration Risks in Mechatronic Systems

______

Students—Thesis

Gifhorn

This challenge awaits you:

The increasing complexity of mechatronic vehicle systems presents vehicle development with particular challenges, especially in system integration. Interfaces between mechanical, electrical and software-based subsystems are among the most common sources of integration risks in the development process.

As part of this thesis, a quantitative method for assessing and predicting such integration risks is to be developed. The method will be based on model-based approaches that can be used to systematically identify, evaluate and make risks visible at an early stage of the development process.

To further develop this future-oriented topic, we are looking for an engaged student for a thesis in the field of modern vehicle development and model-based system integration.

Your Tasks:

  • You research the current state of science on integration risks, interface complexity and quantitative risk assessment methods in product development
  • You analyze typical failure mechanisms at interfaces of mechatronic systems
  • You classify interface-related failure mechanisms based on real vehicle architectures
  • You develop a quantitative methodology for assessing and predicting integration risks
  • You implement the developed methodology as a prototype and validate it using suitable use cases
  • You document your approach, results and findings as part of your thesis

Necessary Skills:

  • Ongoing studies in an engineering or natural sciences degree program, e.g. mechanical engineering, mechatronics, electrical engineering, computer science or a comparable field
  • Interest in model-based systems development, systems engineering and programming tasks
  • Very good German and English language skills

Desired Skills:

  • Analytical thinking, a structured way of working and enjoyment of scientific work
  • Basic knowledge of SysML, UML or comparable modeling languages is an advantage
  • Experience with a programming or scripting language, e.g. Python, MATLAB/Simulink or comparable, is desirable
  • Independent working style, team spirit, strong communication skills and creativity

Remuneration is based on our collective bargaining agreement. The current monthly salary for this position is EUR 1.012.
