We are seeking qualified applicants for the position of Technician, Instrumentation & Controls at our TransCameron Pipeline located in Cameron, LA.
General Description:
The Technician, Instrumentation & Electrical will report to the Operations Manager. The Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of instrumentation, control systems, and electrical equipment supporting safe and reliable operations. This role ensures compliance with regulatory, safety, and company standards while supporting operational uptime and asset integrity.
Responsibilities:
Participate in commissioning activities
Assist with the CMMS build out
Install, calibrate, test, and maintain instrumentation including pressure, temperature, flow, and level transmitters
Troubleshoot and repair control systems, PLCs, RTUs, and associated communication networks
Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on control valves, analyzers, and electrical components
Configure and maintain SCADA systems and field communication devices
Interpret P&IDs, loop drawings, wiring schematics, and technical manuals
Support commissioning, startup, and shutdown activities
Participate in root cause analysis and failure investigations
Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation
Ensure compliance with OSHA, environmental, and regulatory requirements
Support emergency response activities as required
Functions as Maintenance SME (Subject Matter Expert) for Instrumentation & Controls systems.
Understanding of requirements needed to execute control system (DCS, PLCs, SIS, F&G and stand-alone applications) maintenance work.
Understand maintenance work scope and applicable Operations and Maintenance processes and procedures.
Understand the execution of preventive and corrective maintenance electrical work according to VG Pipeline HSSE process, procedures, standards and regulations.
Familiar with measurement systems and flow computers.
Familiar with API RPs associated with pipeline design and operation.
Provide tracking, status reporting, and project progress updates to project management.
Responsible for population of Load Sheets associated with the workstream.
Functions as interface between Maintenance, Engineering and other VG departments.
Functions as SME for industrial communications protocols and control networks.
Coordinate identification of local suppliers for spare data/pricing information (missing)
Responsible to populate missing core tag data in SPILs as required
Responsible to submit MM creation based on vendor recommended spares where missing or as required for BOM development
Travel including nights and weekends, as needed
Other duties as required
Qualifications:
Education and Certifications:
Education:
- High school diploma or GED (Technical degree or certification in Instrumentation, Electrical Technology, or related field preferred)
- 5+ years of experience in instrumentation and control systems in an industrial, pipeline, or energy environment
- Working knowledge of PLC systems (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.)
- Experience with SCADA systems and remote telemetry units (RTUs)
- Strong understanding of electrical systems up to 480V
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs and electrical schematics
- Valid driver’s license
Experience:
- Maintenance planning and scheduling experience preferred.
- Understanding of project development and delivery.
- Experience in natural gas and/or midstream operations
- Strong knowledge of electrical industrial standards and regulations
- Strong work experience maintaining and troubleshooting controls systems, dedicated applications, Analyzer and F&G, such as – but not limited to, System administration, backup/recovery programs, access control, alarm management, and cybersecurity interfaces
- Strong experience maintaining and troubleshooting DCS/SIS/PLCs and dedicated applications systems
- Working knowledge of PLC systems (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.)
- Experience with SCADA systems and remote telemetry units (RTUs)
- Experience with GC Analyzer Systems as well as F&G Systems (field and buildings).
- Applied knowledge of maintenance and troubleshooting of dedicated application systems, such as, but not limited to, rotating machinery vibration and speed monitoring systems, tank gauging systems.
- Experience in maintenance and troubleshooting of industrial network communication systems (hardware and software).
- Knowledge with CMMS systems work management process (Work order process). SAP experience is preferred.
- Experience with MOC, PSSR, HAZID/HAZOP.
- Periodic travel to project sites and consultant offices.
- TWIC holder or ability to obtain TWIC
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and enter confined spaces
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays and respond to call outs and emergencies
- Ability to work with a team, take direction from supervisors, keep required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules
- Must be able to respond to an emergency at the station within 60 minutes
Skills:
- Must possess valid driver’s license and meet company insurability requirements
- May be required to possess a commercial driver’s license, drive a company commercial vehicle and comply with all commercial vehicle regulations
- Strong leadership and organizational skills are required
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic ability
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of an organization and with individuals and groups from different disciplines, industries and governmental agencies
