SUMMARY
Technician II works in developing skills that support various aspects of the Machine Tools business. Install and service Murata Machine Tools products. Cross-train on both Metal Forming and Metal Cutting products as assigned for best overall customer service.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following; other duties may be assigned.
- Install Murata Machine Tools products:
a. Install and demonstrate new machines in customer plants, including electrical or mechanical check-outs, set up, tooling, operation and programming.
b. Prepare and submit demonstration reports accurately and promptly.
- Service Murata Machine Tools products:
a. Perform basic electrical/electronic, or mechanical, or hydraulic problem diagnosis and repair in customer's plants during warranty period.
b. Crosstrain on mechanical, electrical & electronic maintenance.
c. Perform most maintenance work and provide basic assistance needed by customer following warranty period.
d. Prepare and submit service time and expense reports accurately and promptly.
-Assist other Field Service Engineers with various assignments to receive necessary on-the-job training.
-Testing and troubleshooting systems to detect and solve technical problems.
-Conduct visual inspections of components and assembled systems to ensure quality standards are met.
-Maintaining accurate records of production data, results, and other reports as required.
-Fill out daily reports/logs on root causes, troubleshooting steps, and solutions.
-Make recommendations for improvements to processes to increase efficiency and reduce costs where appropriate.
-Develop strong customer service skills.
-Follow safety procedures and guidelines to ensure a safe work environment.
Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED required; Technical degree or certification in a related field is preferred; basic knowledge of mechanical and electrical components. Minimum two years’ work-related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Understanding of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems
- Knowledge of CNC equipment (FANUC a plus) and basic math and computer skills.
- Ability to troubleshoot and solve technical problems.
- Must be able to use gauges and tools efficiently. Mechanical and electrical aptitude is required.
- Able to follow and read complex engineering drawings (mechanical and electrical schematics).
- Good use of hand tools, power tools, measuring instruments, and electrical testing equipment.
- Machine tool experience is a plus
- Technical or military training in electronics is a plus
- Desire to understand customer needs
- Strong attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
TRAVEL
This position requires up to 50% travel including domestic and international. A valid driver’s license and good driving record are required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
REQUIREMENTS WHEN ON FIELD SERVICE ASSIGNMENT
The worker is subject to noise, and sometimes hazards; physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals. The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions - one or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin: Fumes, odors, mists, gases, or poor ventilation. The worker is subject to oils - air and/or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids.
