About this Job
Surgical Care Practitioner – Robotics
Location: The Harborne Hospital, Birmingham Hours: Permanent, Full time – 37.5 hours per week (Part‑time applications welcome) Shifts: Monday–Saturday, earlies, lates and long days Salary: Competitive + shift allowance
At The Harborne Hospital, you’ll be stepping into one of the most advanced theatre environments in the region. Our department features four state‑of‑the‑art operating theatres and a brand‑new hybrid theatre where our expert teams deliver multiple procedures in a single session, including highly specialised minimally invasive interventions.
Working across a diverse range of specialities—ENT, Spinal, Neuro, Cardiac and Orthopaedics—you’ll be part of a collaborative, highly skilled team that thrives on innovation, precision and exceptional patient care. With access to the Da Vinci Surgical Robotics System, you’ll play a key role in shaping the future of robotic surgery within a hospital designed from the ground up to support complex, cutting‑edge practice.
We are also open to considering part‑time working patterns, making this an excellent opportunity for practitioners seeking greater flexibility without compromising on clinical exposure or career development.
About the Role
This is a hands‑on, fast‑paced and highly rewarding role where no two days look the same. As a Robotics Surgical Care Practitioner, you’ll be right at the heart of the action—supporting surgeons at the bedside during robotic procedures, preparing patients for theatre, and ensuring every element of the surgical pathway runs smoothly. You’ll work closely with world‑class consultants, theatre practitioners and multidisciplinary teams who value your expertise and rely on your clinical judgement in high‑precision environments.
Your day may begin with reviewing patient assessments, preparing the robotic suite, and coordinating with the wider team to ensure the theatre is ready for a full list of procedures. During surgery, you’ll be the surgeon’s trusted clinical assistant, anticipating needs, maintaining safety and flow, and contributing to the seamless delivery of complex robotic cases. You’ll also play a key role in planning ahead, managing the clinical area, and supporting the continuous development of our robotics service.
This is an opportunity to grow your skills in a hospital that invests in its people, its technology and its future. If you’re passionate about robotics, thrive in a dynamic theatre environment and want to be part of a team that’s pushing the boundaries of modern surgery, this role offers the perfect platform — whether you’re seeking full‑time hours or a part‑time arrangement that supports your work‑life balance.
