About this Job

IONCOR is an agile independent battery solutions company with Nordic roots and decades of experience as a leading partner for some of the world’s most admired brands. With a wide range of professionals in Finland and Germany, we provide modular battery products, customized solutions and contract manufacturing to energize a global energy transition. Buses, trucks, construction, material handling and agriculture are examples of categories where production volumes of equipment are lower, and end-use cases more complex and diverse, making a swift and viable transition a real challenge. This is where we come in.

We help customers master and gain maximal value out of battery technologies across the lifecycle, from early specifications and end-user support to reuse and recycling. This is how we electrify a global energy transition.

We are now looking for eager Summer Trainees to join our team. As a Summer Trainee, you can kick-start your career with gaining hands-on experience and be a part in shaping the future of battery technology.

Would you like to be a new member of the Automation Engineering team?

We are looking for a motivated Trainee Automation Engineer to join our engineering team. This position is ideal for a higher education student currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field, who wants to build real-world skills in industrial automation, PLC systems, and hardware integration.

As a trainee, you will work alongside experienced automation engineers, gaining hands-on experience in developing, testing, and maintaining automation systems used in modern industrial environments.

Key tasks include:

  • Assisting in the development, programming, and testing of PLC and automation systems
  • Supporting hardware setup, wiring, assembly, and troubleshooting on automation projects
  • Participating in commissioning, calibration, and validation tasks under supervision
  • Documenting system configurations, test results, and engineering changes
  • Collaborating with engineers to resolve technical challenges
  • Learning industry best practices related to safety, quality, and automation standards

The position is located in Salo. Occasional remote days are possible, depending on the tasks.

We hope you have:

  • Current studies in a Bachelor’s or Master’s engineering program (Automation, Electrical, Mechatronics, or related)
  • Strong interest in learning PLC programming, industrial control systems, and hardware.
  • Basic understanding of electrical principles, control logic, or programming concepts (university-level is sufficient)
  • Good problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn
  • Fluent written and spoken English.
  • The following are seen as a plus:
  • Familiarity with PLC platforms (e.g., Siemens, Beckhoff)
  • Experience with any programming language (Python, C/C++, Structured Text, etc.)
  • Knowledge of sensors, actuators, and industrial communication protocols.

This is what we offer you:

Opportunity to join an agile and innovative team dedicated to driving the global energy transition through advanced battery solutions. With our Nordic heritage and expertise, we provide the chance to work on cutting-edge projects across diverse industries, where electrification presents unique challenges, a good work–life balance and a feeling of creating something new.

  • Hands-on training in PLC programming, automation hardware, and control systems
  • Opportunity to work on real industrial automation projects with experienced mentors
  • A supportive environment that encourages growth, learning, and technical development
  • Flexible working hours
  • An international atmosphere, with both Finnish and English as working languages
  • Paid internship, with pay based on credits completed. Salary range is 2300-2750 €/month
  • Trainee community and fun events throughout the summer
  • Employee benefits such as free access to our gyms in Salo and Uusikaupunki, occupational healthcare, lunch benefit, and various discounts at selected stores and gyms.
