🚀 Student Internship: GNSS/Inertial Data Science & Automation Specialist (Automotive QA)

Location: onside in our office in Höhenkirchen (near Munich)

Important note: this internship is only intended for students who are currently enrolled in a study. (Permanent job seekers will not be considered)

Company & Team

Industry: Automotive Technology, Quality Assurance

Product Focus: Software libraries for precise positioning (GNSS, inertial sensors, and wheel tick fusion) for navigation and ADAS applications using the Trimble ProPoint Go engine.

Are you a highly analytical student passionate about Data Science, Automation, and Artificial Intelligence? Do you want to apply your skills in a high-stakes, cutting-edge field like Autonomous Driving (ADAS) and Precise Positioning?

Our Quality Assurance team is responsible for collecting, analyzing, and aggregating test data to continuously improve the ProPoint Go positioning performance. We are seeking a motivated student to drive the next generation of automated data analysis and anomaly detection. This is an exciting chance to work with real-world automotive data and state-of-the-art AI tools in a flexible, part-time role.

Work Arrangement: Part-time (Up to 20 hours per week)

🌟 Key Responsibilities

Your primary mission will be to transform our manual data analysis processes into an automated, intelligent workflow that supports continuous product improvement. This includes:

  • Automation Development: Develop and maintain Python scripts to automate the extraction, processing, and aggregation of complex test data (GNSS, IMU, wheel ticks) from test vehicle campaigns.

  • Data Visualization & Reporting: Create dynamic dashboards and visualizations to clearly present positioning performance metrics, test scenarios, and aggregated findings to the engineering team.

  • Database Management: Utilize PostgreSQL to efficiently store, query, and manage large volumes of test data for fast and reliable analysis.

  • AI/ML Anomaly Detection: Explore and implement AI/ML models to automatically identify and flag "out-of-specification" performance or anomalies in positioning data that require engineering investigation.

  • Workflow Integration: Investigate and integrate low-code automation tools like n8n to connect data sources (test logs), the database, and communication channels, building robust, automated workflows.

⚙️ Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related technical field.

  • Excellent Analytical Skills: Strong ability to interpret complex sensor fusion data, identify trends, and derive actionable insights.

  • Proficient Python Skills: Solid experience with Python for scripting, data manipulation (e.g., NumPy, Pandas), and data visualization (e.g., Matplotlib, Plotly).

  • Database Experience: Practical experience with SQL and familiarity with PostgreSQL.

  • Open Mind for AI/Automation: Eagerness to learn and apply new AI technologies (e.g., large language models via API) and automation platforms (e.g., n8n, API integration).

✅ What You Will Gain

  • Hands-on Industry Experience: Direct involvement in quality assurance for a safety-critical positioning engine used by major automotive manufacturers.

  • Cutting-Edge Technology Exposure: Work with real-time sensor fusion data and explore the practical application of AI in data monitoring and QA.

  • Mentorship: Receive guidance from experienced engineering professionals in the GNSS/INS and automotive fields.

  • Flexible Schedule: Work up to 20 hours per week, allowing you to balance your studies.
