About this Job

Senior SW Applications Engineer (UAV)

Redwire Corporation is a global space and defense technology company building the infrastructure of the future and delivering multi-domain solutions. Redwire Defense Tech specializes in the design, manufacturing, and integration of autonomous unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and advanced electro-optical surveillance systems. Our technologies are trusted and deployed across defense, security, civil, and industrial sectors worldwide.

The Aerospace Application Software Engineer serves as a senior technical authority responsible for shaping the architecture, strategy and evolution of mission-critical operator software used across multiple UAS product lines. Engineers at this level define and enforce technical direction for application frameworks, mission system interfaces, visualization platforms and operator experience across the entire ground system ecosystem.

This role requires deep domain expertise across complex system integration, UI/UX frameworks, real-time telemetry systems, distributed architectures and operator-centric workflows. In this role, you will mentor engineers, influence executive decision-making and lead cross-functional initiatives across autonomy, avionics, test and production.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain application software for mission-critical UAS systems.
  • Contribute to system architecture decisions within your team, ensuring scalability and maintainability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate software components.
  • Implement and maintain APIs, data pipelines, and operator-facing features.
  • Debug and resolve complex technical issues related to telemetry, system performance, and integrations.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices.
  • Support system integration, testing, and validation activities.
  • Contribute to improving UI/UX for operator-facing applications.
  • Assist in breaking down technical requirements into actionable development tasks.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support knowledge sharing within the team.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
  • 5–8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Strong experience building and maintaining complex software systems ( autonomy, GNC, ground control systems).
  • Proficiency in one or more core languages (e.g., Python, C#, C++).
  • Experience with UI/visualization frameworks (Qt, WPF, WinUI, or similar).
  • Solid understanding of real-time data processing, multi-threading, and networked systems.
  • Experience working with distributed systems or communication frameworks (e.g., DDS, ZeroMQ, MAVLink, ROS2).
  • Familiarity with software architecture principles and modular design.
  • Experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and version control systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to debug complex issues.
  • Effective communicator able to work in cross-functional teams.

Prefered qualifications:

  • Experience in aerospace, robotics, or other safety-critical domains.
  • Exposure to ground control systems, telemetry, or mission planning software.
  • Familiarity with geospatial visualization or mapping tools.
  • Experience with system integration and testing (SIL/HIL).
  • Some experience mentoring junior engineers.

We offer:

  • Modern production facility with cutting-edge equipment and a dynamic work environment.
  • Competitive compensation.
  • Health and children accident insurance, after probation time.
  • Accident insurance from first day.
  • Annual bonus program based on performance.
  • Yearly salary review.
  • Financial support in special life situations.
