The Boeing Company is seeking a Senior Software Engineering Manager for the Experimental & Mission Systems (XMS) Software group to join our team in Seal Beach, CA within the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) Space Mission Systems (SMS) organization.
The successful candidate will lead & develop a world-class Software Engineering team responsible for the implementation of state-of-the-art space software products. The candidate will work with program leaders and managers in the development and efficient execution ofintegrated software plans, operational software, software design artifacts, and the necessary simulators to verify and validate flight software prior to operational use.

Position Responsibilities:
Lead all Software Engineering teams and mid-level managers within SMS Experimental & Mission Systems (XMS) organization, managing software engineering and technical activities spanning multiple disciplines in a high intensity, event-driven environment.
Lead technical authority and senior software manager for the X-37B Flight Software Integrated Product Team (IPT)
Serve as IPT Lead and Cost Account Manager (EVM): manage scope, performance metrics, risk, cost, schedule, and technical quality, ensuring projects are completed on schedule and within budget
Lead flight software technical strategy, architecture, design reviews, and execution of program milestones.
Own software requirements, formal configuration management, and software-centered qualification/sell-off activities for safety and timing.
Oversee embedded/real-time software development, including RTOS environments, coding standards, and toolchains.
Direct verification & validation activities: Software-in-the-Loop (SIL), Hardware-in-the-Loop (HITL), software integration labs, software simulations, automated test frameworks, and formal qualification testing.
Manage software lab build-up, maintenance, and HITL hardware integration.
Drive supplier technical management, negotiate and coordinate supplier deliverables, and manage interfaces with other IPTs and system stakeholders.
Implement and tailor Agile/Scrum practices at scale (PI planning, sprints, retrospectives) where appropriate, and shepherd automated test pipelines.
Define, communicate, and enforce software best practices across requirements, design, V&V, safety, cyber, and configuration management.
Prepare and support proposals: basis of estimates (BOEs), WBS, cost/schedule estimates, technical sections, and implementation plans.
Communicate effectively up and out: present technical status, risks, tradeoffs, and recommendations to customers, senior directors, and executive leadership
Functional Management over a complex, geographically diverse organization:
Build, recruit, and retain a diverse, distributed team; plan staffing and workforce allocations to meet program needs and budget constraints.
Provide hands-on mentoring, coaching, and technical direction to engineering leads and managers; establish succession plans, staffing-to-plan and budget, career development paths, and performance management.
Develop and execute a robust training and development plan
Perform employee performance management, hiring, retention, awards/recognition, and goal setting
Develop employee engagement activities to motivate and engage the workforce
Contribute to the development and vision of the Space Mission Systems Software organization
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):
10+ years of experience leading or managing a software engineering organization and software activities
This position requires an active TS/SCI U.S. Security Clearance with successful completion of a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) by the federal government within the last 5 years (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.)
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
12+ years of software engineering experience with at least 8 years leading software organizations or large programs.
Demonstrated IPT/program leadership responsibility for technical performance, cost, and schedule, and experience serving as a Cost Account Manager using EVM.
Proven track record driving software V&V and formal qualification/sell-off to meet certification-level requirements.
Hands-on experience with SIL and HITL integration and managing software labs.
Deep knowledge of real-time embedded software, RTOSes (e.g., VxWorks) and programming languages such as C/C++.
Strong supplier technical management and cross-functional coordination experience.
Experience implementing Agile/Scrum practices at scale and using data-driven Agile/Earned Value Management metrics to drive performance to plan.
Demonstrated ability to define and enforce requirements, safety, cyber, testing, and configuration management practices.
Excellent communication skills for both technical leadership and upward/outward communication to customers, directors, and executives.
Experience in people management including succession planning, staffing-to-plan and budget, career development, mentoring, coaching, and performance management.
Experience with software static analysis, code coverage, and metrics-driven execution.
Prior aerospace proposal experience (BOEs, WBS, cost estimating).
Experience managing multi-year, phased programs and large supplier ecosystems.
History of building and scaling distributed engineering teams across multiple locations and time zones.
