This role sits at the intersection of advanced embedded software engineering and large-scale team leadership within a highly regulated aerospace environment. You will lead engineering teams responsible for developing and evolving embedded platform software powering next-generation avionics systems. The position blends deep technical oversight with people leadership, with a strong emphasis on mentoring engineers, driving execution excellence, and ensuring system reliability, safety, and performance. You will collaborate across global engineering teams to define solutions, guide architecture decisions, and support innovation in mission-critical systems. The environment is fast-paced, quality-driven, and highly collaborative, requiring strong communication and the ability to influence across functions. This is a high-impact leadership role shaping technologies used in safety-critical aerospace applications.
Accountabilities:
Lead and manage embedded software engineering teams focused on developing platform software for avionics systems, ensuring high-quality delivery across the full software lifecycle. You will balance technical oversight with team leadership to drive execution, innovation, and operational excellence.
- Lead, mentor, and grow engineering teams, fostering strong technical capability and team cohesion
- Oversee design, development, and maintenance of embedded software systems for safety-critical applications
- Provide technical direction on system architecture, OS concepts, device drivers, and real-time embedded systems
- Ensure adherence to software engineering best practices, coding standards, and quality assurance processes
- Drive cross-team coordination, communication, and dependency management across global engineering groups
- Guide problem-solving efforts, including prototyping and evaluating potential technical solutions
- Maintain strong engineering governance, ensuring compliance with aerospace and defense standards
Requirements:
Extensive experience in embedded software development and engineering leadership is required, along with strong technical depth in low-level systems, RTOS environments, and avionics-related platforms. The ideal candidate combines hands-on embedded expertise with proven people management skills in complex engineering organizations.
- 18+ years of experience in embedded software development and verification
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering or a related STEM field
- 4+ years of experience in engineering or technical management roles
- Strong expertise in embedded C, C programming, Linux, RTOS, and multi-threaded/multi-core systems
- Deep understanding of system software concepts, OS internals, and hardware architecture (ARM, PowerPC, etc.)
- Experience with embedded tools such as JTAG debuggers, Lauterbach, and related development toolchains
- Familiarity with configuration management and tools such as JIRA, GIT, SVN, DOORS, or JAMA
- Exposure to avionics standards (e.g., ARINC) and aerospace development processes is a strong plus
- Strong leadership, communication, and team development skills in global engineering environments
