Closing Date: 09 August 2026

The Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Senior Electronics Technician to support practical teaching and laboratory activities across the School of Engineering’s electronic laboratories.

Working as part of a skilled technical team, you will support taught modules, student projects, and research activities while contributing to the development of new laboratory experiments and facilities.

You will be involved in a wide range of student-led projects and research initiatives involving:

  • Analogue and digital circuits, including troubleshooting and fault finding
  • Printed circuit board (PCB) design, prototyping and assembly
  • AC/DC low-voltage motor drive systems
  • Microcontroller based systems (Microchip PIC, Arduino, and Raspberry Pi) including embedded programming
  • 3D-printing and basic CAD design for prototype components

You will design, demonstrate, operate and maintain specialist electronic equipment, ensuring all work is carried out safely and effectively. You will also instruct and guide students in the use of laboratory equipment and processes, including oscilloscopes, power supplies, signal generators, data acquisition systems, and microcontroller platforms.

To be successful in this role, you should have substantial practical experience in an electronics environment, ideally within a teaching workshop or laboratory. You should also have demonstrable knowledge of analogue and digital electronics, PCB design, and electronic systems.

We actively support ongoing professional development and provide opportunities to develop skills in new hardware and software technologies.

Our School offers a supportive and collaborative working environment, flexible working arrangements, and an excellent benefits package, including up to 42 days holiday per year (30 days annual leave, 8 bank holidays, and 3 additional closure days over Christmas) alongside a generous pension scheme.

If you are passionate about electronics, enjoy supporting students and practical learning, and want to contribute to the future of engineering education, we would love to hear from you.

How to Apply:

We strongly encourage prospective applicants to make an informal enquiry before applying and would welcome the opportunity for an informal online Teams discussion about the role.

Please complete the online application form uploading your CV and a brief statement detailing how you meet the essential and desirable knowledge, skills, and experience requirements.

Please contact Stephen Robson, Technical Operations Manager, at stephen.robson@ncl.ac.uk
