The Role

SRG Global is seeking a Senior Automation Specialist to join our Mining Services Division, SRG Global (Mining) Australia Pty Ltd. This full-time position will be FIFO on a 4:3 roster.

This is an exciting opportunity for the onsite technical implementation, installation, configuration, commissioning, testing, fault diagnosis, and optimisation of autonomous production drilling systems.

Reporting to the Manager of Engineering & Digital Automation, you will work closely with site leadership, operational teams, clients, OEMs and internal engineering specialists to successfully integrate autonomous drilling into day-to-day mining activities.

This is a technically focused automation specialist role combining hands-on work across integrated electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and communications systems with project coordination, operational readiness and continuous improvement responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, commission, test and validate autonomous drilling systems and supporting technology across the drill fleet, including drill-mounted automation hardware, electronic control systems, operator stations, servers, high-precision GPS, field devices and communications infrastructure.
  • Within applicable competencies and site authorisations, diagnose, modify, maintain and repair complex automation and control systems that combine electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic principles.
  • Configure and optimise automation software, control-system parameters, interfaces and network connections.
  • Monitor system condition and performance, complete root-cause analysis, implement reliability improvements and provide technical guidance and training to operators, maintainers and other personnel interacting with autonomous drilling systems.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities to maximise equipment availability while minimising operational disruption.
  • Plan and coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance activities to maximise automation system availability while minimising operational disruption.

The successful applicant will ideally have:

  • Demonstrated hands-on experience installing, commissioning, configuring, testing, maintaining and fault-finding integrated automation and control systems.
  • Experience diagnosing faults across systems that combine electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic principles.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, system documentation, alarms and fault information and convert findings into safe, practical corrective actions.
  • Extensive experience within surface mining operations, with a strong background in drilling and blasting.
  • Proven ability to coordinate operational activities and work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders in a dynamic mining environment.
  • Strong commitment to safety leadership, operational excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Excellent communication, planning and organisational skills.
  • Section 26 (S26) Statutory Supervisor qualification, or the ability to obtain.
  • Trade qualification at Certificate III level or equivalent in mechanical fitting, electrical, electronic instrumentation or a related field, supported by practical experience with complex automation and control systems.
