About this Job

Do you want to dive into the fast-growing industry of drones and get a rewarding experience in a dynamic start-up environment?

At Flyability, we believe that robots should be sent into hazardous places and dangerous situations instead of humans. To support our belief, we created Elios, the world’s first collision-tolerant flying robot that for the first time allows remote entry to complex and indoor spaces. With more than 100 employees, Flyability is the pioneer in the UAV indoor inspection industry. Joining Flyability is not just taking on a new job, it is seizing the opportunity to improve the life of millions of people and build the future of robotics.

To complete our creative and dynamic team in Lausanne, we are seeking a:

Robotics Engineer Intern - Sensing & Perception Systems (100%) Starting date: as soon as possible

Your role:

In this role, you’ll play a key part in selecting and integrating sensor systems essential for enabling features such as mapping, navigation, and stability on our robotics platforms. Working closely with the engineering team, you’ll select and optimize sensor configurations to enhance data accuracy and system synchronization, directly contributing to the performance and reliability of these advanced systems.

What you will own:

  • Sensor Selection: Identify the most suitable sensors, such as cameras, lidars, radars, IMUs, etc., based on project requirements.
  • Sensor Integration & Placement: Optimize sensor settings and positioning in simulation and through prototypes. Integrate the sensors to meet performance targets, ensuring they are well-calibrated and time-synced with the system.
  • Algorithmic Performance: Ensure the system fulfills design specifications by closing the loop with evaluations of algorithmic performance, such as depth perception, odometry, mapping, navigation, and stability.

Your profile:

  • Previous experience in sensor technologies (cameras, lidars, radars, IMUs), sensor fusion, and performance evaluation for robotics.
  • Proficient in C++ and Python, with ROS1/ROS2 experience.
  • Hands-on approach with strong analytical skills for optimizing sensor placement, selection and and evaluating algorithmic performance.
  • Previous experience with simulating robots and sensors is a plus.
  • Fluent in English. French or other languages are a plus.
  • Drone experience is a plus.

Flyability is a young Swiss company that values independent thinking combined with a collaborative spirit. Every day, you will have the opportunity to share your ideas and contribute to solving problems. We all work together, and each voice is important to move forward.
