About this Job

About Origin

Origin (previously 10xConstruction) is building general-purpose autonomous robots for US construction to tackle rising costs, safety risks, and labour shortages. Our modular, multi-trade platform combines purpose-built hardware with real-time site intelligence to navigate complex environments and execute tasks with precision. Trained in high-fidelity simulation and already deployed on live sites, our robots deliver 5x faster execution, 250%+ margin expansion, and significant cost savings. Join India’s most talent-dense robotics team consisting of individuals from IITs, Stanford, UCLA, etc.

About the role

The Engineering Apprentice - Robotics Deployment and QA is an entry-level role for highly observant, operationally-minded engineers. You will be the eyes and ears of the engineering team in the test arena. You will run repetitive, grueling tests on the robot to ensure it survives the construction environment. Under the guidance of Senior QA engineers, you will learn how to systematically break complex systems, collect the data, and document the failures.

Key Responsibilities

Test Execution:

  • Run extensive hours of manual and semi-automated tests on the physical robot platform, specifically focusing on edge cases, collision avoidance, and tool actuation.
  • Monitor robot telemetry during long-endurance tests, flagging any sudden spikes in temperature, latency, or power draw.

Log Management & Triaging:

  • Download, label, and archive data logs (ROS bags) after every test session.
  • Do the "first pass" triage of field issues—confirming if a reported bug is a known issue, a user error, or a genuine new failure.
  • Assist in maintaining the physical test environment (charging batteries, replacing worn out tool pads, setting up drywall panels).

Documentation Support:

  • Follow existing test scripts meticulously and record pass/fail metrics.
  • Help the engineering team draft "How-To" guides and quick-reference cards for the field deployment teams.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
  • 0-2 years of experience (strong internships or university robotics team experience counts).
  • Basic familiarity with Linux and the command line.
  • Incredibly organized and detail-oriented; you don't let small anomalies slide.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to describe physical events clearly in writing.
  • Willingness to be on your feet and operate heavy hardware in workshop and field environments.

Preferred Experiences

Experience competing in robotics competitions (FSAE, Robocon, Mars Rover) in a testing or operational role. Basic Python scripting skills for automating simple tasks.

This role may also involve occasional travel to the United States to support on-site robot deployments and testing where our systems are actively operating. As such, holding a valid B1/B2 visa is required, and offers a unique opportunity to experience real-world robotic deployments on active construction sites.

For apprentice/Intern : This is a six-month contract-to-hire position, with potential for longer-term opportunities depending on your contributions and interests. We’re excited to work with motivated individuals who are eager to support real-world robot development and grow alongside us.

  • Gain experience in a dynamic startup environment at the forefront of robotics and AI innovation.
  • Contribute to the development of technology that will revolutionize the construction industry.
  • Work alongside a talented and passionate team committed to making a real-world impact.
  • Learn from experienced professionals and gain valuable skills in robotics software engineering.
  • Gain practical experience in a real-world engineering environment.
  • Contribute to a project with the potential to make a significant impact on the construction industry.

Origin is building the World's First General Purpose Construction Robot. Nothing defines an era more clearly than the way a society builds. Yet, construction remains the only major industry where productivity has declined over the last century. While the rest of the world has become mechanised and lightning-fast, construction is still slow, hazardous, and heavily manual. We are here to change that. We are on a multi-decade journey to enable humanity to build anything, anywhere, autonomously, without ever compromising on craftsmanship. Origin is working with leading Trade Contractors and General Contractors in New York and will expand across the United States in the future. If you want to define the future of automation in Construction, please get in touch. Join the most talent-dense robotics team in the world. We are looking for passionate engineers who want to shape how the future is built. If you are ready to reinvent how humanity builds, apply here: https://apply.workable.com/10x-3/
