Overview
Working with the Robotics/Automation Engineer, the intern will be given numerous projects to design, develop and integrate robots and/or other automation equipment into the factory's existing and new production lines. This may include 6-axis robots, Vision Systems, and AI.
Responsibilities
- Assists in the design, development, procurement, programming and integration of automated manufacturing equipment including stationary robots, mobile robots, optical inspection systems, laser engraving and related products.
- Works closely with manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering, test engineering, design engineering, IT, and production personnel to develop safe, ergonomic, and reliable robotic platforms.
- Responsible for researching and creation of proposals to identify costs, benefits and justifications.
- Generate documentation including user's guides, reference manuals, operating instructions, and repair guides.
- Responsible for maintaining, repairing or modifying any existing automated production equipment as required, including PLC's or other microcontroller-based controllers.
Qualifications
- The intern must be working towards a bachelor’s degree in Robotics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering. (rising Junior or Senior)
- Knowledge of network communications and other various communications protocols, including Ethernet, RS232, RS485, Blue Tooth, Wi-Fi helpful.
- The intern must have complete knowledge of standard computer applications including all Microsoft applications as well as CAD applications, such as SolidWorks or Fusion, and 3D printing.
- Must have strong mechanical skills and be knowledgeable and comfortable using typical power tools found in most mechanical shops.
- Familiarity with Linux and Python programming required.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, hear, stand and walk. The employee will frequently be required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds using proper lifting techniques. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
