About this Job

Robust AI is a fast-growing, early-stage startup founded in 2019 by an unsurpassed team of veterans in robotics, AI, and business. We are a collaborative group with a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives, seeking talented individuals who are just as excited about robotics and AI as we are! Help us redefine the very foundation of robotics and build robots that are smart, collaborative, robust, safe, flexible, and genuinely autonomous.

As a Robot Technician, you will be playing a critical role on the Customer Success Team. You will work alongside onsite and remote engineering staff to deploy the next generation of warehouse robotic systems, executing preventative maintenance and incident triage. You will troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair robots while in the field. You will also help provide technical support and training to our customers. This position requires a technician who is not afraid to roll up their sleeves in an early-stage startup environment, working smart and hard to keep our fleet operating at its maximum potential.

The annual salary for this role is $60,000 - $85,000; the final compensation for this role will be based on the candidate’s unique skills and experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with customers to deploy and support robotic fleets in the warehouse
  • Provide detailed training to customer teams onsite
  • This is a remote role, candidates must be able to work onsite at multiple customer sites throughout the United States
  • Able to travel on short notice up to 80% of the time within the designated region for site inspections and repairs
  • Commission, test, and debug robotic systems, remotely troubleshooting with the engineering team as needed
  • Conduct routine and incident maintenance for our robot fleet
  • Provide timely repairs and decrease the time our robots are out of production
  • Maintain records of service calls, training, and expenses
  • Study technical manuals and attend training sessions provided by engineers
  • Provide support for root cause analysis for major incidents in the field
  • Report on critical team metrics such as mean time to repair and first contact resolution rate

To be successful in this role, you will possess the following:

  • Communication skills: With strong verbal and written skills, you communicate clearly and concisely with customers and colleagues — whether you’re training floor associates at a warehouse to use our robotic solution, troubleshooting a technical problem with our engineers, or developing SOPs
  • Empathy: You have a keen sense of what others may be feeling and thinking, and can respond appropriately even in stressful situations
  • Safety orientation: You complete maintenance, training, and debugging exercises not just because they are part of your job, but also because you fundamentally understand that they are core to ensuring that our robotic fleet remains safe for users
  • Attention to detail: You triple-check packing, assembly, and maintenance instructions because you understand the consequences of missing parts or missed steps
  • Comfort with electrical and mechanical tools: You will be using a digital multimeter, wire and PCB soldering tools, electrical terminal crimping tools, torque wrenches, hand tools, etc. as part of your daily responsibilities
  • Comfort with software: You will be flashing firmware and using command line interfaces, Linux-based operating systems, and simple Bash commands as part of your daily responsibilities
  • Self-starter and growth mindset: You will learn what you don’t know and can execute high-quality work independently without supervision
  • Physical requirements: You may be on your feet for long periods and have to lift up to 50 lbs

Preferred Qualifications

  • 4+ years of troubleshooting and debugging experience with robotics, industrial automation, or similar mechatronics industries — especially mobile robotics
  • Experience with basic system administration and network configuration
  • Experience with relational databases and SQL
  • Experience reading and interpreting mechanical drawings, system block diagrams, circuit schematics, and engineering manuals
  • Experience with Google Workspace applications, especially Sheets

What we offer:

  • Stock options and huge growth potential
  • Strong startup (and fun) culture
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision coverage
  • Flexible vacation and sick leave practices
  • Paid parental leave

Robust AI fosters a culture of belonging and a shared commitment to equality and equity.

Having a diverse set of perspectives is key to ensuring AI and robotics serve the needs of all.
