The Building Construction Products division at Caterpillar is a global organization responsible for design, manufacture and support of Caterpillar's line of small, versatile construction equipment and Work Tools (attachments). In our Athens, GA facility we manufacture Cat® Mini Hydraulic Excavators (MHE) and, if you have the initiative and the right experience, skills and abilities, we have an excellent career accelerating opportunity for you to join our team as a Robot Manufacturing Engineer supporting the MHE weld and fabrication manufacturing processes.
In this role, you will work independently and as part of a team to maintain and improve processes and systems. As part of the Athens fabrication team, you will serve as a specialist and subject matter expert for technical planning throughout the manufacturing facility and be heavily involved in the highly automated fabrication of structures for MHE products which includes extensive robotic welding.
Specifically in this role you can expect to:
- Provide analysis to drive to root cause and/or determine improvements, and lead projects to develop and implement solutions.
- Procure material related to manufacturing improvements through external suppliers
- Troubleshoot day-to-day robotic issues, develops solutions, and monitors improvements
- Perform quality checks on machines such as dry film thickness, gloss measurements, and ground checks
- Respond to customer issues and lead process improvements
To be successful in this role, you will bring you skills in:
Lean Manufacturing: Knowledge of the philosophy, principles and implementation approaches of lean manufacturing; ability to integrate and implement lean manufacturing philosophy into existing production and management processes.
Manufacturing Processes: Knowledge of existing product manufacturing methods, technologies and processes; ability to execute, plan, manage and monitor the entire manufacturing process.
Robotic Process Automation (RPA): Knowledge of techniques and processes of robotic process automation (RPA); ability to develop and deploy RPA solutions in various industries.
Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.
Top candidates will also bring:
- At least 3 years of programming and troubleshooting industrial robots and peripheral equipment, and PLC troubleshooting/programming
- At least 5 years of experience working with industrial robots
- Must have strong communication skills (written and verbal) to create technical documentation for step-by-step work instructions
- A bachelor’s degree in engineering or engineering technology (Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, or related discipline)
- Paint robot experience, offline programming experience
- Powder coating experience
- Understanding of welding fundamentals and troubleshooting of process inputs
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, electrical schematics, and ladder logic
- Prior experience working in AutoCAD or similar 3D modeling software (CREO experience preferred)
- Experience in coaching and guiding a technical team
- MS Teams, Outlook, Word and advanced Excel experience

Summary Pay Range:
$81,370.00 - $122,060.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location,job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
