The Robot Learning Lab at Bosch Research Pittsburgh focuses on developing autonomous systems that learn safe, robust, generalizable, and transferable representations of the world and are therefore capable of acquiring, adapting, and improving their own skills/behaviors when deployed to diverse scenarios. Specifically, we develope technologies related to dexterous manipulation for manufacturing, robot foundation models, cross-embodiment learning, agentic robot control frameworks, and human / robot data collection systems.
Job Description
The Robot Learning Lab at Bosch Research Pittsburgh invites skilled robotics engineers for research and development at the intersection of robotics systems, telemetry / sensor data capture, and machine learning. The role will work closely with internal teams of robotics research scientists, research engineers, and research interns; the role will focus on mocap/teleoperated data-collection, robotics hardware management, robotics station-building, and machine learning engineering — particularly for constructing high-quality datasets that will be used for training robot foundation models, such as Vision Language Action models (VLAs). Prospective colleagues with gaming backgrounds and/or strong experience with AR/VR/XR systems are highly preferred.
Tasks
Operate robot teleoperation systems to guide robots through designated tasks, with a careful consideration about smooth, high-quality, and task-relevant motion-capture.
Perform manipulation tasks in extended reality (XR), to produce data that captures meaningful object interactions.
Coordinate with the ML team to plan data collection, manage machine availability, and adapt to changing priorities.
Apply systems instincts to identify mechanical inconsistencies, behavioral anomalies, UX gaps, and workflow issues.
Ensure safe operation of all robotics systems, adhering to protocols for both human and machine safety.
Leverage and extend existing robot operation procedures, ensuring safe operation of all robotics systems and adhering to protocols for both human and machine safety.
Work with team to produce high-quality experiments for academic publications and industrial deployments; support team in drafting publications, invention reports, and technical reports.
Qualifications
Required Qualification:
Currently pursuing a Bachelors or Masters degree in Robotics, Machine Learning, Computer Engineering, or related
Minimum 3.0 GPA
3+ years in testing or using interactive systems (games, simulations, robotics, or related)
Familiarity with VR environments and/or game/simulation testing workflows
Proficiency with bug tracking tools (e.g, Jira or related).
Desired Qualification:
Background in Robot Learning, Robotics, or Embodied AI research and development;
Ability to master new physical tasks quickly and perform them optimally.
Consistent attention to detail with a methodical approach to problem-solving.
Excellent attention to detail, spatial awareness, and coordination.
Ability to methodically investigate, reproduce, and validate issues.
Enthusiasm, patience, and a drive to improve processes and outcomes.
Adaptability to evolving technologies and quick learning of new systems.
Experience developing / using robotics tools, simulations, data-collection systems, etc.
Extensive experience in working on multiple robot hardware platforms
Extensive experience with the Linux command line

The U.S. base salary range for this intern position is $26.50-$51.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined based on several factors, including, but not limited to, type of degree, work experience and job knowledge, complexity of the role, type of position, job location, etc. Your Hiring Manager can share more details about the specific salary range for this position during the interview process.
