About this Job

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Engineer to join the NTU-Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center Singapore (HMGICS) Corporate Lab. The successful candidate will lead the development and integration of advanced optical sensing and machine vision systems for Body-in-White (BIW) surface inspection in automotive manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and integrate optical sensing and machine vision systems for surface defect inspection.

  • Support the setup, calibration and validation of imaging and measurement platforms.

  • Conduct experiments, analyse system performance and recommend technical improvements.

  • Collaborate with researchers, industry partners and vendors on system development and implementation.

  • Develop testing protocols, maintain technical documentation, and prepare project reports and presentations.

  • Support research activities, technology evaluation, and innovation initiatives related to industrial inspection systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, or a related discipline.

  • Knowledge of machine vision, optical instrumentation, sensing technologies, industrial automation, or related areas.

  • Experience with imaging systems, sensors, system integration, experimental testing, or measurement systems will be advantageous.

  • Familiarity with image processing, computer vision, Python, MATLAB, C++, LabVIEW, or equivalent tools is preferred.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and project coordination skills.

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
