SEL ES is seeking a Relay Commissioning Technician with mid to senior-level experience to support field commissioning and testing of protection and control systems. This role involves hands-on work with power system equipment and relay testing tools, ensuring reliable operation of electric power systems. 

As a Technician/Specialist, a typical day might include the following:   

  • Commission and test protective relay systems and associated power equipment. 

  • Use Doble, Megger, and Omicron test sets for validation and troubleshooting. 

  • Conduct functional testing for protective relay and control systems for transformers, switchgear, capacitor banks, generators, and reclosers applications. 

  • Perform physical and functional verification of wiring to ensure proper installation and system integrity. 

  • Collaborate with customers and internal teams to ensure successful project delivery. 

  • Document test results and support integration efforts. 

  • Travel to customer sites (up to 80%).

This job might be for you if:  

  • You have 3–10 years of experience in relay testing or commissioning.

  • You have a strong grasp of protection principles and control schemes.

  • You are comfortable working with Doble, Megger, or Omicron equipment.

  • You are familiar with Autocad, Microstation and AcSELerator Quickset and industry protocols (IEC-61850, DNP, Modbus) 

  • You are familiar with RTACs, HMIs, and network switches—or eager to learn.

  • You hold an associate degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or a related field.

  • You have certifications like OSHA, NETA, or NICET—or you're working toward them.

Pay Range Data

$33.00 - $60.00

We are open to reviewing additional candidates with more or less experience and the pay range may differ if filled at a different level. Our pay ranges are determined by job, responsibility, and location. We base our starting pay offer and title on location and job-related factors such as candidate experience, training, knowledge, and skills.
