Main responsibilities
The intern will be expected to support employees to better understand their work and the challenges they face. He will collaborate with the integrator to identify risk factors and plan measures to control and eliminate them where possible. The intern will work closely with project managers, the maintenance team, and certain consultants or contractors. The layout of the future workstation will be designed in close collaboration with the intern. The intern will be involved in technical and technological choices at several stages of the project: computer vision, workstation ergonomics, process limitations, tooling, and programming with artificial intelligence.
As part of their projects, the intern will work closely with the technical and production departments, workers, the maintenance team, HR/Health and Safety partners, and partner contractors.
Project Context:
Aluminum oxide blasting (Grit Blast) is a critical process at the Longueuil plant. This process is used, among other things, for cleaning parts and preparing surfaces before applying a surface treatment, i.e., surface activation. Therefore, most of the plant's parts undergo this process more than once. This preparation can be performed on the entire part or on localized areas.
Currently, this process is performed manually in an enclosed chamber. When using this process, the operator must protect themselves against metallic dust, oxide, and beryllium.
The production flow involves little repeatability within a shift due to its diversity. Physical fatigue, variability, and continuous changes contribute to human error.
Because of these considerations, Hroux-Devtek wishes to automate its main Grit Blast cell by adding a robot that will handle the media projection nozzle. The robotization of this cell will reduce operator exposure to the risks (dust, noise, handling) inherent in the process. The installation will benefit from an updated shot blasting process that will utilize automatic robot movement programming via artificial intelligence. The shot blasting cell upgrade is being carried out in collaboration with OmniRobotics and an integrator, and much of the technology can be reused in automated sandblasting.
Project Objective and Scope:
The objective of this project is to add a media projection robot to Grit Blast Cell 403, while keeping the existing equipment intact as much as possible. Hroux-Devtek will supply the robot, a FANUC P-350iA/45, its controller, a FANUC R-30iB, and a control panel.
The company still wishes to retain the option of manual blasting (5-10% of surfaces will continue to be manually blasted for specific cases or hard-to-reach geometries). To carry out this project, Hroux-Devtek is looking to work with a robotics integrator who will support the design, manufacturing, and installation of the equipment, while also ensuring safety to minimize the risk of injuries caused by human-robot interaction. Furthermore, the robotics integration must include process control, specifically the management of:
- Media projection start/stop
- Waste media
- Ventilation system
- Robot parts/programs
- Alarms
- Operator interface
The internship will be a collaboration between an integrator, OmniRobotic, and Hroux-Devtek, and will take place at Hroux-Devtek's Longueuil site. There is a strong likelihood of interaction with the CTA (Certified Technical Assistant) regarding robotics projects for part inspection and recognition.
The student will also be required to work with the AutonomyStudio software developed by Omnirobotic to improve, adapt and make the software more reliable within the framework of the shot blasting and blasting process.
Our ideal candidate:
The student may come from the following fields of study:
- Master's degree in aerospace engineering.
In this role, we require knowledge of English due to the necessary communications with our various suppliers, clients, auditors, and other subsidiaries of the organization that are international.
Work culture and environment
Are you known for your ability to adapt and learn? Do you like to surpass yourself and develop in a technically complex environment? Hroux-Devtek offers you the opportunity to work in a friendly environment where skills development is at the center our top priority. Here, employees are at the heart of the realization of the product, developed through engineering centers, factories, a service unit and an accessible and agile head office for fast decision-making.
Be part of a motivating top-notch team!
