Amazon is seeking a talented and motivated Principal Applied Scientist to develop tactile sensors and guide the sensing strategy for our gripper design. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in sensor development, analysis, testing and integration. This candidate must have the ability to work well both independently and in a multidisciplinary team setting.
Key job responsibilities - Author functional requirements, design verification plans and test procedures - Develop design concepts which meet the requirements - Work with engineering team members to implement the concepts in a product design - Support product releases to manufacturing and customer deployments - Work efficiently to support aggressive schedules Basic Qualifications: - PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related technical field - Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language - 10+ years of experience selecting, designing and integrating sensors into robotic systems - Expert in sensor technologies, especially optical sensing - Deep understanding of sensor sensitivities (e.g. to thermal conditions, specular conditions, etc) and nonlinearities - Understanding of the durability and resilience of these sensors - Hands on experience crafting proof-of-concept models, building prototypes and debugging subsystems - Experience with written communication to leadership and peers - Experience working in a fast-paced agile environment Preferred Qualifications: - Have peer-reviewed scientific contributions in premier journals and conferences - Experience with the project management of technical projects - Knowledge of SolidWorks simulation or Ansys Finite Element analysis tools - Experience with the design of complex mechanical products and equipment - Experience designing for large scale manufacturing - Demonstrated experience collaborating with Mechanical, Electrical and Controls engineers - Ability to support domestic and international travel as required by the program - Proficiency with Product Lifecycle Management PLM software and ECO’s

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
