R&D Engineer - Power Electronics Simulation

OPAL-RT Technologies is looking for an R&D Engineer, with a strong focus on Power Electronics

Place of work : Edinburgh or surroundings, (partly remote position could be considered for strong candidates).

Main Responsibilities :

• Propose and execute power electronic  engineering and R&D projects.
• Support technical, business development and sales teams with specialized expertise on power electronics  real-time simulation.
• Mentor technical team to raise skill levels in power electronics simulation.
• Provide feedback on and support pre-release testing and validation of OPAL-RT’s power electronics..
• Write and present technical papers on power electronics simulation.

Requirements :

• Education : Ph. D. degree in electrical engineering (or relevant field), master’s degree holders with 5+ years of academic/industrial research experience in power electronics would be considered.
• Experience : At least 5 years of hands-on real-time simulation of power electronics or power systems simulation
• Required knowledge : Strong understanding of power electronic , including applications, modeling and numerical methods. Strong experience with power electronics or power systems simulation tools such as OPAL-RT’s eHS, PLECS and SPS or OPAL-RT’s HYPERSIM, RT-LAB and PSCAD. Strong experience with MATLAB, Simulink and relevant toolboxes for power electronics . Understanding of concepts of FPGA implementation of numerical methods and algorithms for power system simulation.
• Language skills : Strong oral and written communication skills in English. French and/or German are a plus.
• Required skills: Ability to inspire confidence and gain buy-in through expertise and clear technical reasoning. Strong problem solving, design, analytical skills and out-of-the-box thinking, coming up with creative solutions on testing approaches in critical timelines.. Excellent communication and teamwork skills. Proficient at writing process documentation. Highly autonomous and proactive in identifying improvements

Assets::

• Hardware and interfacing experience for hardware-in-the-loop testing of power electronic controllers.
