The Packaging Electrical Engineer Intern works alongside multiple departments, under clear oversight and supervision of a mentor, to support business initiatives and day-to-day operations. This position applies engineering concepts to study, evaluate, optimize, and manage assets, systems, or components to ensure they perform to their required function under stated conditions for a specified period. The Packaging Electrical Engineer Intern is greatly involved in line-performance projects to include improving electrical, automation, controls systems, modifications, and troubleshooting of electrical equipment.
Estimated starting annual base salary is $33.00/ hour less applicable withholdings and deductions, paid on a bi-weekly basis. Please note that the actual compensation offered may vary based on relevant factors as determined by the Company, which may include, but is not limited to, location, experience, qualifications, education, skillset, and market conditions. The target base compensation for this role is in the low to middle of the range, with the top of the range reserved for only exceptional circumstances. In addition, this role is eligible for a discretionary, variable annual incentive, paid based on Company performance factors. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with troubleshooting basic electrical issues on production and packaging equipment, including motors, sensors, conveyors, and control panels.
- Support maintenance and engineering teams with preventive maintenance activities and equipment inspections.
- Help update electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, equipment documentation, and spare-parts lists.
- Collect and analyze downtime, production, and equipment-performance data using Excel or similar tools.
- Assist with small improvement projects involving sensors, controls, automation, safety devices, or machine reliability.
- Observe and support PLC, HMI, VFD, and industrial control-system troubleshooting under supervision.
- Help test equipment after repairs, modifications, or installations.
- Follow all plant safety, food safety, GMP, sanitation, and lockout/tagout requirements.
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- Currently pursuing a bachelors degree in electrical engineering, facilities, maintenance, or related technical field from a four-year college or university.
- Record of high academic achievement (Minimum GPA 2.5, preferred GPA 3.0 or higher).
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (KSAs):
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively, verbally and written, with internal staff and management. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
- Must be able to demonstrate practical problem solving skills. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with mechanical systems, specifically in a food manufacturing environment.
- Bilingual in English/Spanish.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing throughout the day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

The noise level in the manufacturing work environment is usually loud. The Engineering Intern will occasionally work in high, precarious places and outdoor conditions.
