Level 3 Vehicle Operator (Autonomous Vehicles) Location: San Francisco Work Environment: In-Person Pay Rate: $29.00 per hour Job Type: Contract | Full-Time (30+ hours/week)
Overview We are looking to hire a Level 3 Vehicle Operator supporting autonomous vehicle testing, fleet operations, and real-world driving validation.
This role is critical to the safe testing and deployment of self-driving vehicle systems, supporting engineering teams with vehicle operations, data collection, system monitoring, and operational feedback. The ideal candidate is a safety-focused professional driver with strong communication skills, technical awareness, and the ability to operate vehicles for extended periods while supporting autonomous vehicle development programs.
Compensation & Shift Incentives Base Pay: $29.00/hour Weekend Shift Bonus: +5% hourly premium Night Shift Bonus: +2% hourly premium Weekend Night Shift Bonus: Up to +7% total hourly premium
Shift Schedules Day Shifts 5:45 AM – 2:15 PM 6:45 AM – 3:15 PM 7:45 AM – 4:15 PM Night Shifts (TOP PRIORITY - FAST HIRING) 1:45 PM – 10:15 PM 2:45 PM – 11:15 PM 3:45 PM – 12:15 AM 5:45 PM – 2:00 AM
Available Workdays Wednesday – Sunday Thursday – Monday Friday – Tuesday Saturday – Wednesday Additional overnight schedules may be available.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate autonomous test vehicles safely on public roads and testing routes
- Drive 4–8 hours per shift while monitoring vehicle behavior and road conditions
- Support autonomous vehicle testing operations and fleet deployment
- Perform basic software interaction and system diagnostics
- Document vehicle performance data, operational metrics, and test observations
- Provide written and verbal feedback to engineering and operations teams
- Conduct daily vehicle inspections and preventative maintenance checks
- Maintain vehicle readiness, safety compliance, and cleanliness
- Assist with vehicle logistics, fleet staging, and equipment organization
- Support cross-functional teams including vehicle engineering, computer vision, infrastructure, and ride operations
Required Qualifications ( Must Have)
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
- Ability to drive for extended periods (4–8 hours daily)
- Strong understanding of road safety and defensive driving
- Basic technical troubleshooting and software interaction skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety protocols
- Comfortable documenting testing observations, vehicle performance, and operational reports
- Reliable, punctual, and comfortable working rotating shifts, evenings, and weekends
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent technical or field operations experience
- Experience in vehicle testing, fleet operations, transportation services, or ride-hailing
- Military, logistics, or technical operations background
- Familiarity with ADAS systems, autonomous vehicle technology, or mobility platforms
