Primary Objective:
Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager and in conjunction with the Engineering Department, the Automation Technician works to develop process automation using a variety of software tools. The Automation Technician also maintains and troubleshoots automation in the plant.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Works with Maintenance Manager to develop Programmable Logic Controller and Human Interface programming for production line automation.
- Program PLCs (programmable logic controllers) for a variety of different applications using RsLogix500, RsLogix5000 and Directsoft 32.
- Design HMI using RsView Machine Edition, RsView32, Winbuild 5000 and Panelbuilder32.
- Install and program Variable Speed drives and Servo drives.
- Set up and maintain Device Net Network.
- Program motion controllers.
- Design and lay out electrical panels.
- Design electrical schematics using AutoCAD2008.
- Support Cognex Vision Systems for production quality assurance.
- Update and maintain electronics on existing equipment.
- Strictly adhere to the Company and plant safety policies and procedures.
- Assist line mechanics with die changes, electrical problems, and mechanical problems on the production lines.
- Build new equipment either electrical or mechanical.
- Consult with Engineering and the Maintenance Manager on new equipment designs.
- Start up and program new equipment after assembly.
- Interact with external contractors as needed.
- Perform repairs on plant electrical components as directed by the Maintenance Manager.
- Other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Manager.
Responsibility for Work of Others
- May be responsible for overseeing temporary employees in the absence of Maintenance Manager
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent desired.
- Associates degree in electronics or other technical training preferred
- Minimum of five years previous PLC, HMI programming experience in a manufacturing or maintenance environment preferred
- Above average English skills, both verbal and written
- Must read, program and diagnose Allen Bradley PLCs, Allen Bradley Panel View HMI controls and have thorough familiarity with software.
- Able to use a variety of computer software such as Winbuild, AutoCAD / Solidworks and Panelbuilder.
- Strong communication skills both verbal and written.
Physical Demands
- Able to lift 35-50 pounds repetitively.
- Able to stand for extended periods on concrete.
Work Environment
- Will be working in multiple environments from high heat to air conditioning to adverse outdoor weather
- May work in wet conditions
- Will work in welding and fabrication environments
- Will work in paint spray booth areas.
