Position Overview:

Solid Power is seeking a Maintenance Engineering Manager to join our talented team of engineers and technicians working to revolutionize the battery industry through the development of next‐generation, all solid‐state rechargeable batteries. Solid Power is a dynamic, fast‐paced, collaborative, and innovative team environment. This position is a key role within the Cell Operations Engineering team that will focus on maintenance within the Cell Technologies structure in addition to leading the Controls team.

The primary responsibilities of this candidate will include the management of the Cell maintenance team, preventive maintenance tasking and work plan adherence, equipment optimization, and reliability. Must be skilled in root cause analysis, predictive maintenance, and lean manufacturing principles. The Manager will work cross-departmentally to provide necessary maintenance support thereby enabling successful execution of companywide work plans and customer deliverables. This position will interact closely with both leaders and individual contributors in peer departments requiring a high level of communication, organization, and coordination of maintenance interruptions to complete required preventative work while minimizing unplanned downtime.

Job Duties:

  • Support department in identifying, developing, planning, and executing necessary preventative maintenance plan and tasks for Manufacturing and Engineering owned equipment and infrastructure (if required).
  • Develop and execute the automation strategy to support operational goals (efficiency, reliability, cost reduction).
  • Identify opportunities for new automation technologies or process improvements.
  • Build multi‑year roadmaps for automation systems, upgrades, and lifecycle management.
  • Own the performance, reliability, and safety of all automation and control systems (e.g., PLCs, HMIs, robotics, SCADA, MES).
  • Ensure standardization of automation architectures, programming practices, and documentation.
  • Oversee system integrations across equipment, software, and manufacturing processes.
  • Manage a team of engineers and technicians including, handling yearly reviews, creating and communicating long term responsibilities, day-to-day task assignment, timecard and expense report approval, approving and denying purchase requests, maintaining/improving team moral, and growing the maintenance team.
  • Continually assess internal team expertise against company needs, identify gaps, and develop appropriate training programs.
  • Manage relationships and communication with contractors, working with external and internal teams to address contract, budget, and schedule issues.
  • Work closely with manufacturing engineers and cell production leadership teams on the installation and start-up of new equipment.
  • Support department in developing metrics against site maintenance deliverables and equipment uptime within the CMMS (Fiix) system.
  • Continuously manage Maintenance Engineering budget against plan including but not limited to repair and maintenance, vendor support, and overall OPEX/CAPEX.
  • Become a contributor, SME, and company advocate of EHS principles that are primarily driven by the Maintenance Engineering department. Example programs include LOTO, hot work, electrical safety, work at heights, and any other identified program.
  • Support technology transfer documentation as required.
  • Mentor all maintenance engineering employees by motivating and providing direction to help them achieve their individual and company goals and initiatives.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or related field or equivalent work experience. Work experience will be substituted for education.
  • Minimum 10+ years of leadership experience.
  • Minimum 10+ years of maintenance engineering (electrical and mechanical) experience required.
  • Minimum 7+ years of automation experience
  • Proven experience with Rockwell Automation (Allen-Bradely), Siemens and/or Mitsubishi PLCs.
  • Demonstrated leadership and people management skills.
  • Ability to manage priorities across departments and work with outside departments to deconflict timelines.
  • Experience with TPM, Lean Six Sigma Manufacturing practices, or other continuous improvement methodologies preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as necessary including, but not limited to eye protection, hair net, gloves, face mask, coveralls, full-face respirator or PAPR
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk
  • Working within a dry, clean-room environment

Salary Range: $155,000 - $175,000
