About this Job

Purpose of Role

Working as part of a Service Area a Lead Technician shall mainly lead and undertake technical work and support to the Company and Client and could be required to carry out work in various wind parks within South Africa. The work will include general and specialised work on Wind Turbines and associated equipment, together with the local teams in our service regions

Key Responsibilities [Key Performance Areas]

  • Customer interaction and compliance

  • Supervision and management of employees and subcontractors

  • HSEQ and statutory compliance

  • Contractual adherence and compliance

  • Daily and monthly reporting to Client and management

  • Planning and controlling site activities and priorities

  • Ensuring all work activities are undertaken safely and in accordance with Company procedures and standards

  • Analyse and repair faults and defects with phone-contact to support services, if required

  • Autonomously carry out troubleshooting, fault-finding and repairs of turbines and associated equipment

  • Carry out complex repair-processes and exchanges in collaboration with the local supervision and specialists

  • Carry out planned maintenance and inspection activities

  • Fill in reports and checklists in order to completely inform Client and management

  • Inform customer in case of works on turbines and associated equipment

  • Undertaking tasks in the most economical way for the Company

  • Responsible for safekeeping and control of materials, tools, and property of the Company

  • Carry out tasks in accordance with Company manuals and regulations

  • Comply with all HSE related instructions and guidelines Work safely with materials and personnel

  • Report any incidents and accidents to supervision as soon as practicable

  • Carry out standby duties according to the site roster

Skills / Competencies

  • At least 5 years post qualification associated vocational experience. Minimum of 2 years at supervisory level. Ideally within the NORDEX or ACCIONA renewable energy environment.
  • Knowledge of the NORDEX or ACCIONA specific programs, products and services will be an advantage.
  • Basic HSE knowledge and ability to develop further in this area.
  • Familiar with IT-Tools.

  • Willing to travel on a regular basis, including nights away from home

  • Medically fit
  • English – must demonstrate good written and oral communication

Experience, Knowledge & Qualifications

  • Mechanical or Electrical Technical education/training or comparable training and knowledge
  • Electrical or Mechanical Trade Test Certification will be an advantage
  • Experienced to use data processing – PLC and SCADA will be an advantage
  • Good English language skills (read, write and speak fluently)
  • Driving Licence – Minimum Code B
  • Safety Hazards analysis.
  • Power converters and PLC programming will be an advantage.
  • Office suite professional and other Suites are a plus
