Duties & Responsibilities
Install, calibrate, troubleshoot, and maintain instrumentation and control systems supporting coal preparation plant processes, including conveyor and material handling systems.
Maintain, test, and repair field instrumentation, including pressure, flow, level, and temperature transmitters.
Service, calibrate, and commission control valves, actuators, and process analyzers used in process and utility systems.
Support instrumentation and control systems associated with hoists, dewatering pumps, ventilation fans, and coal preparation plant process circuits.
Perform preventive maintenance, loop checks, and functional testing to ensure the reliability and safety of automation systems.
Read and interpret P&IDs, loop diagrams, wiring schematics, and control system documentation.
Troubleshoot and optimize PLCs, distributed control systems (DCS), and industrial communication networks.
Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve instrumentation and control issues.
Maintain accurate calibration records, maintenance logs, and documentation in accordance with company and regulatory standards.
Follow all provincial and company safety procedures, including lock-out/tag-out, confined space, and critical risk protocols.
Other duties and tasks as assigned.
Education, Experience & Qualifications
- Red Seal Certification as an Instrumentation and Control Technician.
- Minimum 35 years of experience in mining, mineral processing, or heavy industrial environments.
- Strong understanding of process control systems, sensors, and automation components.
- Experience using test and calibration equipment such asmultimeters, loop calibrators, and HART communicators.
- Familiarity withPLC programming and troubleshooting (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.) considered an asset.
- Knowledge of applicable CSA electrical codes, mining safety regulations, and OH&S standards.
- Valid Drivers License.
Technical Competencies & Skills
- Able to work 12-hour day and night shifts on a 7x7 rotation.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively from technical drawings and manuals.
- Physical fitness to perform labor-intensive tasks, including working at heights and in tight areas.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and manual dexterity.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to concentrate on complex tasks.
- Self-motivated, team player with a positive attitude and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Good English communication skills both oral and written.
- Willingness to work in adverse weather conditions.
- Proven safety and attendance record.
- Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
