The primary responsibility of the Maintenance Instrumentation Technician is to maintain instrumentation and controls associated with automated equipment and control systems. Hand-held programmers and computers are often used to install and configure software specific to the instruments and controls. When instruments and controls are not performing as designed, the technician must troubleshoot the problem to avoid or minimize interruption to production.

Responsibilities

Drive and complete maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and configuration of instrumentation and control systems: o Identify and correct measurement errors. o Replace instrumentation and controls. o Maintain configuration management to ensure compliance with the system. o Redline drawings, engineering documentation, and other technical specifications. o Provide input and support for the design, installation, and upgrade of changes to instrumentation and control systems. o Identify Out of Tolerance conditions, complete corrective actions to return the device to within specification, and participate in investigating and documenting the potential impact that the Out of Tolerance condition may have had on the instrumentation and process.

o Review and/or revise calibration procedures and job plans while looking for ways to improve how calibrations and troubleshooting are completed in an attempt to make those practices more efficient. o Assure work documentation is complete and timely, especially about regulatory compliance and/or code activities. Consult OEM manuals to determine test and maintenance procedures. Be able to configure, calibrate, and test instruments under the appropriate Installation and Operation Manual. Make recommendations and prepare orders for spare parts, additional stock room items, tools, etc. Consult with supervisor and other technicians on problem resolution/troubleshooting. Keep supervision informed of problem issues. Being a part of the Maintenance Team. Organizational peer and partner of supervisors, engineers, and Production Supervisors. Ensuring work is executed per company policies, procedures, and work instructions for customized and standardized plans. Maintaining a safe and clean working environment by enforcing Company, federal, and state procedures, rules, and regulations. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) with completion of an Instrumentation and Controls course (2 years minimum) from a recognized technical institute with subjects covering instrument control systems and component maintenance OR Completion of a formal five-year Instrument Technician apprentice program, including work on instrument control systems and component maintenance OR Verified Military training equivalent to a recognized/accredited trade school program or journeyman apprenticeship program. Preferred: Instrumentation Technical Training Certificate (ISA-CCST), NCCER, or equivalent. Understanding how pressure, flow, pH, level (limit and proximity), weight, time, conductivity, and temperature affect their systems is essential. Must utilize strong knowledge of precision measurement (metrology), mathematics, PLCs, pneumatics loop control systems, and electronics to test, calibrate, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair instrumentation/controls. Experience with industrial controls PLCs, motor controls, control valves, and electrical distribution. Preferred: knowledge of SCADA systems, ideally Yokogawa. Knowledgeable in the use of SAP preferred. Strong written and verbal skills. Ability to understand chemical manufacturing processes, as well as interpret and read blueprints and technical documents. Familiar with industrial best practices. Read P&IDs, single-line diagrams, ladder logic, and wiring schematics. Technically competent and knowledgeable of electro-mechanical systems, including pneumatics and Distributive Control Systems (DCS). Detail-oriented with strong analytical and troubleshooting skills. Must possess good organizational, communication, and time management skills, with a strong attention to detail, and be able to follow Standard Operating Procedures, Calibration Procedures, and work instructions. Accountable, confident, bright, articulate, innovative, highly motivated, and a self-starter with a high energy level who performs with the highest integrity. Hands-on, field-oriented, with initiative and decision-making skills. Knowledge and understanding of industry codes, product safety standards, regulations, etc. Physical dexterity to climb ladders and lift up to 50lbs regularly. Ability to work in warm (110 degrees F) and cold (20 degrees F) environments. Ability to travel in the continental US and Canada to work at SNF-owned facilities and perform the same functions as in the Riceboro site.
