- Job Overview*
- Reporting to the the Maintenance Supervisor, the primary purpose of the Instrument and Controls Technician role is to properly and efficiently calibrate, maintain, troubleshoot and repair process, facility, and laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
- Reporting Structure*
- This position reports to the Maintenance Supervisor.
- Key Responsibilities:*
- Perform scheduled calibrations, unscheduled corrective calibrations, and repairs of industrial instrumentation (typically 4-20mA, HART, Fieldbus, or PROFIBUS loops).
- Calibration of all critical instruments used in drug manufacturing facility per established calibration test methods in accordance with in-house calibration procedures within scheduled time frame
- Performs calibration of electronic sensors, control devices and instrumentation, including environmental controls.
- Keep Production, Maintenance, and Quality staff and management team of notified of calibration status of all instruments in the program
- Liaises with internal/external customers/inspections related to area of expertise.
- Participate in new equipment Instrumentation selection and participate in FAT/Commissioning.
- Participate in the procurement of instrumentation and calibration equipment.
- Maintaining all calibration records
- Interpret P&ID’s, equipment layouts, writing diagrams, user manuals and specifications
- Perform the wiring, configuration, programming, & installation of new instrumentation. Small I&C loop project implementation. Updating P&ID and Instrumentation/Electrical drawings (I&C loops).
- Perform data entry, report generation, closing of WO’s, etc. with the department’s calibration and maintenance Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Author changes to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and Work Instructions/Job Plans.
- Review and approve completed Calibration forms.
- Coordinate with departments across the facility to schedule calibrations
- Write new calibration procedures
- Ensures operations are in accordance with safety requirements.
- Assist and troubleshoot with maintenance personnel equipment/systems, including mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, or hydraulic circuits (motors, pumps, compressors, boilers, chillers, and purified and domestic water systems)
- Troubleshooting and assist in identifying root cause and appropriate corrective actions for instrument/equipment failures utilizing equipment manuals and drawings to troubleshoot problems
- Collect and organize measurement data to produce standard metrology reports for engineers
- Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.
- Qualifications:*
- High school diploma or equivalent, associates’ degree or certification in instrumentation technology strongly preferred
- 3-5 years of hands-on calibration, instrumentation and electronic equipment/controls maintenance experience.
- Previous work experience in a controlled and regulated environment
- Applied understanding of basic electronics theory (Ohms Law) is a must as well as proficiency in the use of hand-held & stationary measurement and signal generation equipment (Reference Standards).
- Ability to identify, and safely troubleshoot, both AC & DC electrical circuitry. Includes complying with department & company LOTO Job Plans and procedures.
- Ability to work from diagrams, schematics and specs.
- Detail oriented and organized, with a high degree of accuracy and thoroughness.
- Strong accuracy and attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to multi-task, meeting tight deadlines in a fast paced environment.
- Previous proficient experience with CMMS software system(s)
- Technical Certification, preferred
- Hands-on calibration, instrumentation and electronic equipment/controls maintenance experience, preferred
- Pharmaceutical or related industry electromechanical experience, preferred
